Does anyone have photographs of the individual memorial panels at the memorial in Hamilton Memorial Park. I am looking for the Prisk brothers, one in WW1 and the other in WW2.
-
Perhaps you could try the Hamilton Library......

Minniehaha.
-
Have you emailed Hamilton Council that handles burial information if they have taken photos of the memorial panels ?
-
I have e-mailed Hamilton Library so will try the council. Graham
-
Did you have any luck with your inquiries?
I will be going that way tomorrow and happy to stop and take a photo for you....if I can get a park :)

A very nice lady who works for the Heritage Department of Hamilton Libraries called in a few weeks ago and took some photographs for me which was very kind of her. Thank you very much for offering to do the same it is much appreciated. Graham
-
That's good
This post caught my eye only because of the name - I live about 10 minutes walk away from Prisk St which is named after another of the brothers :)
-
Name has been removed. Thanks for the heads up. Graham

Greetings from down under Graham.
While censured in the past for a similar naming of a person, and their employment position, I've just been advised by ROOTSCHAT management, that what you did is now deemed OK.
But naming of living people and giving personal details re contact address and date of birth etc still contravenes international privacy laws.
So I was a bit too quick off the mark.
Alan.

You may find this info of some help to you
Prisk Street Hamilton was named by AC Smith the owner of a property in Prisk Street . He named it after Ben Prisk the original owner of the property .The street now comes under the heritage trust
If you go to www.aucklandmuseum.com/war-memorial/online-cenotaph/record/C91373
you will find info on Ben Prisk here
google Hamilton NZ Memorial park it will come up with the site and you can check the Prisk name here .
it doesnt seem to want be to download it.
We usually go down for the Anzac service I am sure the names were on the wall but maybe gone now and instead have single white crosses all round the gardens in memory of those that lost their lives I am sure last time they had their names on the crosses . If we go down this year will check it out for you. They only have them out for a few days then take them down again

Well, I've learned something new about Prisk Street!!
Only Edward Paul Prisk is on the memorial wall in Hamilton.
The younger brother,John Rackham Prisk (who served in WW2) is on the memorial at Palmerston North, because that is where he was living when he enlisted.
Both Edward's and Ben's Enlistment papers are free to download from Archives NZ.
https://www.archway.archives.govt.nz/SimpleSearchResults.do
As well as John's probate, which has a very poignant transcript of the letter sent to his wife by his commanding officer :'(
-
thats great you have found what you were looking for at least told you something about Prisk Street
you didnt know . ;)
-
Thank you all for the additional information. Both Edward and John Prisk are on the memoral panels in Hamilton Memorial Park. There was another brother, Cecil Ben Prisk, who also served in the 1914/18 War in the NZFA. He survived the war and returned to NZ in 1919. I can add some photographs if someone can explain how I do that. Graham

Hi Graham,
you can add photos when you reply or write your query at bottom of your page where you write your message it will say add attachments and other options .you click on that it will say where they are desktop, photos documents etc so open that on your own computer and you can attach .If they are too large they wont go thru so you will have to make them smaller . certain sites if you copy and paste wont go thru which happened to me yesterday
but I have never had a problem with photos ..
give it go and try .

After I posted my last message I discovered that my files were far too large to post so that is why i was unsuccessful. Some of the photographs are 4MB or more so I am not sure how I can make them small enough to post. If I do make them small enough I expect I will have to upload them over several posts rather than a single post. Graham

Hi Graham,
Take a look at this tutorial, sit down with a cuppa or something while you read.
https://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php?topic=372537.0
I usually have to down size mine when posting in an email, so I go for 640 X 480. So if you go for about this size, it should be fine. Infraview lets you do this.
Hope this helps.
Cheers

Apologies Graham - I put 2 and 2 together and made 5 ::)
After I offered to take your photos,I realised that my message might get to you too late, depending where on the planet you are,so decided to go anyway if I hadn't heard.
Only then did I realise there were no Christian names mentioned,so I looked at a transcript of the soldiers names on the memorial done by a past member of the Hamilton branch of NZSG.
On reflection, this could have been an old transcript - before the new memorial was built.
I could only find E P Prisk listed,so did a bit of digging to find the other brothers.John appeared on electoral rolls in Palmerston North, his will was written there, I looked on the War memorial and he was there .
What I didn't realise was that a soldier can be on more than one memorial.
Which I would have done if I'd got as far as the park.
I've tried to attach pictures -they are small enough, but the message doesn't send.

Another try

A very nice photograph. Can you please confirm which memorial this is. It is quite common to find people on more than one war memorial. I live in the UK and many men who emigrated to NZ before WW1 and died serving in the NZEF are commemmorated on war memorials in the town here where they lived before emigrating as they still had family living locally. Here is the link to the War Memorial in Palmerston North

Thanks for the links. The Manwatu Roll only appears to be WW1 but maybe I am not reading it correctly. Graham

Don't know how that happened, this should link to the pages:

It worked this time, thanks very much. Graham
-
I finally got around to reducing the size of the photographs I would like to post but was unable to do so as there are already attachments to the file and I need to change the name of the file. How do I do that? Graham
-
Hi Graham,
Right click on the photo, from the drop down box, you will see rename, it usually sits right at the bottom, type a new name in the text box, and press enter to lock in your change.
Cheers

I have managed to reduce the photographs I want to post so herewith photographs of Edward Prisk, his headstone in Brookwood Military Cemetery and the panel with his name on the Hamilton Park memorial
-
I can also now add the photograph of John Prisk, his headstone in Tobruk, the panel in Hamilton Memorial Park with his name on it and a photograph of Cecil Prisk who also served an survived the war. Graham
-
Interesting to see Graham, you've done a great job.
Edward and Cecil are very much alike.
