Title: Duncan Ross
Post by: Spirited on Sunday 07 March 21 10:46 GMT (UK)
I am looking for information on a Duncan Ross born 1875 in Camberwell, Surrey, England.
His parents were Charles Harry Marsland Ross and Mary Ann Constance Atkinson.
He married Fanny Waldron on 20 May 1901 in Fremantle, Western Australia.
He had 3 children : Irene Ross, Edward William Ross and Sydney John Ross
He died on 15 February 1950 in Fremantle, Western Australia, at the age of 75, and was buried in Melville, Western Australia.
Any information would be greatly appreciated.

What information are you after.

You have him born in Surrey 1875 but in Australia by May 1901, presumably you have him on census while in the UK.

I have seen his marriage record stating he was in Fremantle, Western Australia in 1901.
I was told he was born in Surrey, England and his mother passed away in England the year after he was born. Between his birth and his arrival in Australia I do not know anything.
Family history has not been reliable so I am seeking wherever I can.

Yes, it appears they only had one son, Charles, who cannot be the 'Duncan,' Spirited is looking for.

Charles Harry Ross was actually a famous cartoonist:

Have you located the record for his voyage from the UK to Australia

That certificate gives father as Charles Ross (No other names) and mother Constance (Unknown).
Charles occupation looks like Serg in Army though not clear.

How have you confirmed that his parents were Charles Harry Marsland Ross and Mary Ann Constance Atkinson.

And how has it been established that he was born in Surrey?

not sure what Constance's surname is, but I don't think it's Atkinson. There's an ascender further into the word than the k in Atkinson.

Looks like 'Unknown' to me... Not sure how Charles Ross & Constance (Unknown) were linked to Charles Henry Ross & Mary Ann Constance Atkinson.

Queenie you need to remove that certificate from your post, we are only allowed to put small sections on rootschat, mainly when they need deciphering.

I read it as Constance unknown

The information I have has been handed down by family members.
I have no travel records for when he arrived in Australia.

Do Australian death certificates give information on parents, I realise they could be inaccurate as they only depend on the knowledge of those still living.

It may be worth searching incoming travel records for him, perhaps a post on the Australia board if you can't look at it yourself.  Unfortunately 'handed down' information is sometimes wrong and it is always best to verify any information obtained this way.

Well, on the certificate of marriage-
Is it just me or does the place for the maiden surname for the mother of Duncan ROSS actually say (unknown)

I do not see Atkinson or another surname like it.

Earlier posts on this thread have said that it says Unknown.

This topic is now being discussed on the Australia boards where they have mentioned there is a Camberwell in Australia and a possible Duncan Ross living there.  OP has been advised on there to get Duncans childrens birth certificates and his death certificate.
