Hi Queenie,
Yes, this is the correct marriage - but I'm puzzled as I can't find a baptism for an Elizabeth / Elizabeth Jane Skeet (s) under FreeBMD or in the GRO index. There is a Jane Skeet, dau John and Caroline, aged 3 in the 1841 census for Tattingstone, Suffolk. I'm trying to see what the baptism and marriage registers actually say. Neither Ancestry nor FindMyPast have good Suffolk register transcripts.
Many thanks for your help.

Did she marry John Gull 1857?

Hi - yes, I believe she did, but the names are rather a muddle, and I was trying to clarify. I figure she was born in 1838 - but the Jane’s/Elizabeth’s born Sept 1837 - 1839 did not have a mother’s surname of Garnham!
mystery.
Many thanks, Joan

Could someone please check the baptism of Elizabeth (?Jane) Skeet - 8 Oct 1838, Tattingstone, Suffolk
Where did you find the date 8 Oct 1838?
Queenie posted a possible baptism date 4 Sep 1837 for Elizabeth Jane Skeets parents John & Caroline, EJS on 1841 census as Jane born c1838 & 1851 census as Elizabeth born c 1837 Tattingstone Suffolk
Before 1837 only churches recorded birth, marriage, and death information in England.
England and Wales registration began on 1 July 1837 coverage was not universal, especially in the earlier years before tougher laws in 1874...........

Her marriage registration

John Gull
probably her death reg.
Eliza Gull Jun 1859 Samford Suffolk Volume: 4a Page: 371
GRO indexes shows her death age 23 that would give her a birth year of 1836 so you wouldn't find her birth reg on GRO indexes or FreeBMD
Unfortunately NO date of birth given for Elizabeth on this record from

I had a look on FreeREG https://www.freereg.org.uk but unfortunately there's noting for Bentley or Tattingstone

Hi Ladyhawk,
Very many thanks for this, which is most helpful - and yes, I've come across various instances, mainly in places like rural Suffolk, of post-1837 births not being recorded
(my great grandfather's birth was registered in September 1837!)
The original parish registers tend to give mixed information; sometimes adding the date of birth and sometimes even the mother's maiden surname - in early times just the father. The Skeets were generally non-conformist, and some of their records can span 3 generations - as an example my G2 grandmother, who married Robert Skeet
"Elizabeth Ablitt, daughter of Robert Ablitt and Lydia Ablitt his wife who was the daughter of Lydia Abel was born in the parish of Sutton in the County of Suffolk on 19th June 1809 at whose birth were present James Lyn, Robert Ablitt, Elizabeth Barker"
I think I need to contact the Suffolk Record Office for copies of the original parish records, as all the others are transcripts. Census ages are notoriously a bit vague.
Thank you once again for such a helpful reply.
