Title: James and Mary McGrath
Post by: Karvan on Tuesday 16 March 21 17:28 GMT (UK)
I'm looking for the marriage of James McGrath and Mary Ann Farmer.  Their eldest child Frances was born in 1924 so I presume the marriage would be early 1920s.  I've looked on various sites and can't find them!  Any help would be appreciated.

I believe that James had a brother Patrick and sister twins Cassandra and Susan!

Thank you. I have found the details on the GRONI.  I'll now look for them on the census!

I've tried the census without any luck.  Their ages aren't shown on the marriage certificate and I can't find the families!  I searched for Frances MacGrath and Hugh Farmer - the fathers of the couple.  It does say that Frances is deceased.

Frances is a girl's name. Maybe search for Francis McGrath/MacGrath.

Where were the bride and groom living on their marriage record?
Who were the witnesses to the marriage?
What's the name of the church or registrar's office?

Thank you - my mistake on the spelling!
James was living in Drumconlan
Mary Anne living in Dorragangh  - again not sure of the spelling

They were married at St Mary's Arney

The witnesses were Francis McTaggart or Leggart and Kathleen Farmer

This may be James in the 1911 census in Drumconlan West.

The census for Mary Ann is exciting - it lists Carrie and Susan and a brother Patrick.  I assumed they were McGraths and not Farmers!  Great.  I mentioned those names on my post yesterday.  So Mary married another McGrath!?
Thank you

Widower Hugh Farmer married Mary Magurn in 1902:
https://civilrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/images/marriage_returns/marriages_1902/10273/5738593.pdf

The couple had several children (including Mary Anne) before Hugh died in 1908:

Mary (Magurn) Farmer then married Thomas MacGrath in 1909:

Hugh didn't leave a (valid/acceptable, if any) will, administration of his estate was granted to Mary in 1914 (per PRONI Will Calendars website):  Administration of the Estate of Hugh Farmer late of Dernogagh County Fermanagh Farmer who died 25 April 1908 granted at Armagh to Mary McGrath the Relict

Thank you so much for this information but confused! On the marriage certificate of James and Mary Anne it doesn't state that her father Hugh is deceased!

I thought Cassie or Cassandra was the name of the other twin as on the 1911 census!

I'm heading out for now, but for the moment, just throwing this out as a speculative punt for Mary McGurn, born 1871 to father Patrick and mother Judy McBarren (note the location), hopefully fresh eyes will resolve?

In Ireland Cassie is a nickname for Catherine/Kathleen.

I'm finding it hard to read the names on the pdf certificate! I can't seem to locate the entry!
