Hi hardsocks,

Yes according to the evidence he was a convict. My earlier post doesn't seem to have linked to the convict record properly.

He is recorded as James Hanna per "St Vincent" -

Conduct record here - https://stors.tas.gov.au/CON33-1-115$init=CON33-1-115p97

Description List - https://stors.tas.gov.au/CON18-1-59$init=CON18-1-59 scroll to image 201

Indent - https://stors.tas.gov.au/CON14-1-47$init=CON14-1-47 scroll to image 170 and 171

Muster roll - https://stors.tas.gov.au/CON13-1-11$init=CON13-1-11 scroll to image 159

Founders and survivors also gives you a breakdown of his convict records -

http://foundersandsurvivors.org/pubsearch/convict/chain/ai29905

He was sent to VDL for "burglary, nothing was taken"

Any info on Thomas Ryan Marias second husdand?

This is a quick search and looks to be likely fit, though not confirmed

Thomas Ryan convict arrived 1852 per Lord Dalhousie, 21yo, native of Waterford
https://stors.tas.gov.au/NI/1431622

Marriage of Thomas Ryan 24y and Bridget Joyce 22y 1855
https://stors.tas.gov.au/RGD37-1-14p279j2k

Registered births, some with the mother as Ann Ryan but possibly the same person

Death and burial of Bridget Ryan 1892, aged 66y, born Ireland (age differs to marriage?)

https://server2.admin.millingtons.com.au:81/ASP/search_details.asp?RecordID=8562

Thomas Ryan, ship to colony Lord Dalhousie, admissions to and discharges from the New Town Charitable Institute 1894-1899
https://stors.tas.gov.au/NI/1608068

Note that the 1900 Wise's street directory lists 'Mrs Maria Hannon' at 82 Melville street (where James died), so it may be that she was estranged from her second husband

Burial of Thomas Ryan 1905, carter, 73y, late residence NTCI (New Town Charitable Institute), same plot as Bridget Ryan
