Hi iam looking for any info on my ggggrandfather Michael Hogan born 1843 Ireland, and his wife Catherine Slattery born 1841 Ireland. All i know is they married in 1868 in Dublin, had a daughter Margaret Hogan in 1873 then moved to london where i can trace them.Just looking for anything before fathers, mothers etc. Many thanks
-
The image for their marriage is on the free site Irish Genealogy.
https://civilrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/images/marriage_returns/marriages_1868/11467/8214725.pdf
Michael's occupation was 'Cooper' -- his father was Stephen Hogan - also a Cooper.
Catherine's father was Timothy Slattery - a Plasterer.
The address for both bride and groom was 4, Albert Place - presumably Dublin, where they married at the RC Chapel in Rathmines.
-
Thats great info thank you for your time.
-
You are most welcome -- I was hoping the father's names may help find the baptisms - but I have had no joy so far!
We need an eagle eye on the case.

........had a daughter Margaret Hogan in 1873

Do you have Michael and Catherine in censuses in England?
-
Hi yes in the 1901 census west ham area.sure I've found them in 1881 before can't seem to find them now maybe there names were spelt wrong will try again.thanks
-
Hi checked again for Michael and Catherine in the census but could only find them in 1901.Also I put Stephen Hogan name into ancestry with a date of birth 1822ish + - 10 years and only a few came up.would of put money on it that there would of been hundreds.Or is it ancestry just not having much data? Many thanks
-
You would be looking for a baptism for Stephen so you would need a parish, townland or at least county to begin.
I found the 1901 census. Is this it?
1584/34/6
Michael Hogan 58 yrs Cooper b Ireland
Catharine Hogan 60 yrs b Ireland
Catherine Hogan 18 yrs b West Ham
James Hogan 20 yrs b Poplar
I was hoping there would be a more specific p o b than Ireland.
I can’t see births for Catherine and James. Do you have them?
can’t find the births of the children born in England.
-
Just checked for the births of the children can't find anything concrete.I thought I could find Stephen in the 1841 census but nothing came up.Is it usually harder to find Irish ancestors than say English? Thanks

The church record gives Michael Hogan's parents as Stephen Hogan and Bridget Cody de Clonmel ?
There is a death 1866 age 64 for a Stephen Hogan in Clonmel

Catherines parents are given as Timothy Slattery and Margaret Sexton

Great finds dathai. :)

Chuffed to bits with this information.thank you all so much.So could Stephen Hogan been brought up around Tipperary, and is it close to Dublin? Thanks again
-
Stephen Hogan may have been raised in Tipperary - we don’t know unless we can find some evidence. If you look at a map, you can see that Dublin and Tipperary are not near each other.
There is a plain map on the catholic records site I gave you https://registers.nli.ie/ - just scroll to the map and click on it. It shows the counties. You can then zoom into the parishes.

Michael Sweetman is son in law to Stephen but Bridget would be too old to be daughter and it just says wife for Bridget - not daughter to Stephen :-\
There is a baptism for Stephen Hogan, 2nd January 1834 to parents Stephen and Biddy Hogan in Nenagh. A Godparent is Cody.
