I think there was quite a lot of distortion on the original scan. Pat also adjusted for it.
This is how I see her.

I'm also wondering about the date. I think the 'Elizabeth Taylor eyebrows' were later than 1940. Does anyone know?

Just a note that Nik/DxO has a very good output sharpener, which allows a range of adjustments. It's improved since the first free plugin package. I used it on her face.
