This CDV has been found in a box of ephemeria.
Apparently W V Amey of Landport was a prolific photographer between 1875 and 1898, the internet has more than a sprinkling of his works.
But can you give a more approximate date?
The photo belongs to the wife of my dad's first cousin. She has no idea which side of her family it comes from. I said I would ask for opinions.

W A Avery are listed in The Portsmouth 1898 Street directory... at
https://pubwiki.co.uk/Hampshire/Portsmouth1898/CommercialroadWest1898.shtml
So possibly late Victorian..

I would say its earlier than that.
I think it's more likely to be 1875-1885, given the ladies outfit and the back.
I'd like to see what Carol and Jim say.
Gadget
PS W V Amey:

so early 1880s maybe.
Add - https://natlib.govt.nz/records/22374388 give date from 1875 to 1898

How old do these people look
If your cousin's wife has approximate birth years could she work out family
Would it be worth listing the potential great grandfather s surnames in case anyone recognises them were all of them from Portsmouth area ?
It's a great photo

A nice little piece of advice by the photgrapher

I agree with gadget about an earlier date
If they are wearing their best clothes and are middle aged the fashions may be from some years earlier than photo was actually taken
Did Avery change his frames or backdrop s over the.years
Also love the advice snippet from.photographer.

The back suggests late 1870s to early 1880s
http://freepages.rootsweb.com/~victorianphotographs/history/time/back80.htm
rounded corners were also introduced around then.
