Title: photo date? Owens/Shipley family Derbyshire
Post by: aitch on Tuesday 30 March 21 16:55 BST (UK)
Would anyone who knows something about the fashions of the times be able to date either of these photos please?
Not 100% certain which family member the old lady featured in both is and a date could be a great help in figuring out the rest of the group photo too.  I have a feeling the group photo pre-dates the solo portrait, but would love to hear anyone's views.
TIA

1st. is around mid 1890's +/- a couple of years.
2nd. is 1880's about a decade earlier.
Unusual to see an elderly lady wearing up to date clothes
but she is in both photos so quite a stylish lady.
The children are 2 girls & a boy.
Very young children of both sexes were often dressed the same
so some photographers added toys to denote which one.
Boys often had toy horses or hoops etc. & girls baskets or dolls etc.
