Harriet Rachel marries in 1869 and Henry Horton in 1868. Might be worth locating them in 1861 to see if Eliza is there?
-
Notes.
Henry Harris age 26 living with Eliza S Hodge his sister in 1851.
1861 census he has married Caroline Epps and has 2 daughters Hannah 6 and Sarah A 2.
with him is Henry Hodge 15 apprentice fisherman, this must be Eliza Sarah Hodge's son age 5 in 1851 and his nephew.
James Harris the father was buried Preston 24 February 1853
He was a widow in 1841 age 56 living with daughter Susanna 20 and Henry age 16 in Preston Kent he was a mariner.

His wife Susanna possibly buried 18 January 1840 needs to be checked.

I think Eliza Sarah Hodge has died between 1851 and 1861 as the children are scattered.
Henry 15 is with his uncle Henry Harris
Emma 13 is with her aunt Mary Marten (2 Crescent Place)
Harriet Rachel 17 is with her uncle Matthew Chancellor a journeyman baker in Margate Kent (20 Fort Crescent)
Harriet Rachel Hodge marries Thomas Morrison Colyer 8 August 1869 occupaton Printer at St Pancras, his father Edward Colyer, occupaton Publican. Her father no name given deceased.

Thank you all so much for the information on the Hodge, Horton Harris families it really gives me something to work on, I wonder if Eliza S Hodge went back to her maiden name. :-\ I am finding out so much about my ancestors searching for them all over England, their trade, history etc. :-[ I have printed out the records so I can look through them later, its getting late here, all the best to your all keep safe. :)

Janet :)

Frederick Hodge age 5 in 1841
1851 he is in Margate Kent with his Uncle Anthony Marten 48 and his wife Mary Ann Marten 47 he is an apprentice fisherman (address 16 King Street)
This would be the same Mary Marten who has niece Emma Hodge in 1861.

Afternoon amondg hope you are having a Happy Easter. I have been searching through my earlier records on the Hodge ancestors on this message board and found a Registered Death for Eliza Hodge June Quarter 1855 in the District of St. George in the East, I tried this morning to obtain the GRO death certificate but due to the Easter Weekend they must be closed. Will try again later. :-[
Regards,
Janet :)

Don't order it. According to the new GRO index that Eliza Hodge is 2 years old.
-
When I was looking for Mary Ann Martin I found one a lodging house keeper with an Eliza Hodge living with her.
Eliza was a shoe (fitter) something to do with shoes. At the time I dismissed it as as it was in Kent and I was thinking she was still in Middlesex.
Now of course I cannot find it again. I believe it was in 1871 and Eliza was 50 the wrong age she should have been 60
-
Do you have this
Anthony Martin married Mary Ann Hodge 2 September 1825 at St George the Martyr Southwark

Evening amondg, what a shame I was so excited hoping it was the right burial date, it is still a mystery why her children were scattered after 1851 even one of her children was adopted, can't think by whom now. Is it possible she was in a home, One of my other ancestors Harriett Wigley who died in 1848 in Hanley Castle her husband John Wigley died in 1842 Birmingham. Their children were with the eldest son in 1851 census. :-[
Regards,
Janet :'(

The National Archives reference TNA/RG/8/48. My Subscription for Ancestry has closed, now you have to pay $39.99 for a month. :'( I tried to join GRO Index this morning a difficult web page, I don't want to display my family ancestors to everyone this is private. :-[

I would say that as a widow and unable to support all of her children family members kindly took them in.
-
Thanks for your reply amondg do you think this record is the right one for Eliza Hodge? How can I search in the GRO Index. I may have to subscribe to Ancestry again I will search on National Burial Index for England and Wales 3rd edition and check also. :-[

Thank you sarah and hello Janet !
I have some info on Eliza Sarah for you. She had another daughter Adeline Grace on 26 October 1852. I have a copy of the birth cert. Henry Hodge is stated father !!! Obviously this is not true !!!!!
Have you ever heard of her ? She was known by the Hodge family as Emma was with her in 1871 and Tamar was a witness at her wedding .Eliza and Adelina were known as Ingham not Hodge in 1861 which is why you can't find them .Hope this helps . Let me know if you want anymore details,
Regards Sue.
