According to both Ancestry and FamilySearch there are two entries for a Patrick Keating who died in 1923 in Limerick, aged 78, one in the Sept Qtr and another in the Dec Qtr. But I can't find either of the corresponding entries on IrishGeneology.ie What does come up is the death of a Patrick Keating in Tipperary on 10 January 1923, aged 78. Can anyone help?

That man is 80 and the SRD is Newcastle West.

And just where is Newcastle West? In Limerick.
The OP wants a Patrick Keating death in Limerick in 1923.
The one I provided is one such.

You have provided a death in the county of Limerick, not in Limerick SRD.

Thanks Wexflyer, sorry I should have said Limerick registration district. It seems the Ancestry records are based on the FamilySearch ones which both say aged 78. It's these records I can't locate.
Thanks Kiltaglassan for providing the links to the FamilySearch items.

Did the OP say "Limerick SRD", or "Limerick"?

Check out the Patrick Keating, age 78, died "1920", Limerick RSD. The year of death does not fit the register date.

The SRD Limerick says year 1923 but he died on 30th December 1920 and only registered by his daughter Catherine on 1st October 1923.

Wow, great detective work, hanes teulu, thanks so much.
I wonder why it took so long for the death to be registered?

Patrick Keating died in the townland of Gleno.....on the Limerick-Tipperary border.

Thanks Kiltaglassan, it turns out he's not the Patrick Keating I'm looking for - too old if he died in 1920. The one I'm looking for was baptised on 2 April 1845 in Fedamore, the son of Jeffrey Keating and Catherine Lenihan. I haven't been able to find any other mention of him, or his parents, after this date.
But it was useful to know that the date in the civil registration index is a registration date and not necessarily the death date :-)
