Title: Guy Douglas Haskett SEARS
Post by: grahamila on Sunday 04 April 21 20:03 BST (UK)
I am researching this man and according to the Birth Registration Index on Ancestry his birth was registered in 1883 at Perth, Western Australia and the registration number was 24779.  His father was Frederick Willam Sears and his mother Adelaide Charlotte Baker.  I have been unable to find his birth on the WA Government site so can anyone assist?  If his birth is found is it possible to obtain a copy of his birth certificate?  I live in the UK.  Graham

The birth is in the WA Registry indexes as 1884, not 1883.  Just click on 'order' beside the entry to open the application form.  Unfortunately you have to do it by post only and they are quite expensive.  Payment is by credit card.

Frederick William SEAR was an artist, notably an  engraver.
Mentioned as anew arrival in the colony of Western Australia here. 1885

He was appointed in the Survey Department in 1886.

A grievance over some of his work refers to Frederick being in England previously.

Did you want us to search further for Guy and/or his family - or is it just his birth certificate you are after?

That would have been his older brother Frederick, born in South Australia in 1881.

I dont know if I am doing something wrong but I went to the link given for WA births and then went to "Online Index Search Tool" and entered his details under births but whatever I enter it keeps coming up with "Sorry no records found in database".

I am researching this man because I live in Walton on Thames, UK and there was a hospital here during WW1 run by New Zealanders for, mainly, New Zealanders and known as NZ General Hospital No 2 (Mount Felix).  Guy Sears was serving in a British Regiment when he died there on 8 May 1919 of complications following an operation for appendicitis.  He is buried in the cemetery adjacent to the Parish Church.  I would like to obtain a copy of his birth certificate and any other details as he had quite an interesting life.  He seems to have moved the Scotland at some time, married in the USA on 16 September 1910 and had one child in 1911 before returning to the UK where he had 2 more children.  He was living in London when he enlisted in December 1915.  Does his name appear on any War Memorials in Perth?  Graham

Thanks to everyone for the additional information, I have now found his entry using just his surname and 1883 to 1884 as advised.  I have had a look at the order form and it asks how I am related to this person.  I am not related to him so will I be able to order a copy of his birth certificate?

Yes,  the birth occurred more than a 100 years ago.  If given the option, you should ask for a NOT redacted document.
