Title: Mysterious Case of the Missing Warrior

Good afternoon RootsChat.

My Great-Grandfather served in WW2 and since then both he and my Grandfather have died.

We recently discovered some of his medals but cannot find any records of him in any of the usual places. There is a number on the card but I cannot figure out what exactly it relates to as it seems wrong for a Service number.

FindMyPast have an entry for Oswald Joseph Warrior - 808431 - Royal Artillery Attestations.  Unfortunately I don't understand the entry  :-\

Oswald Joseph Warrior 808431. FindMyPast has his name in its Royal Artillery attestation register (https://search.findmypast.co.uk/record?id=GBM%2FROYALART%2F808001-809000%2F00047&parentid=GBM%2FROYALART%2F697966) (from 1930) and Ancestry has his tracer card (https://www.ancestry.co.uk/imageviewer/collections/61820/images/61820_0061916_0198-00880) (Oswald John Warrior 808431) but I don't think you'll find much else online. His army records will still be with the MoD. You can apply for a copy (£30 and a long wait).

Thank you @ShaunJ I have printed out the MoD application for my Dad (who is the next of kin).


There were 2 Oswald Warrior's on FindMyPast, are they likely to be the same person? I did not think that this was a common name?
