Hello,
Is there any available records for miscarriages/stillbirths in England? Do they get recorded anywhere? (apart from medical records)
I have a situation that would suggest that somehow a child is missing (according to the 1911 census) and I have about exhausted all logical (misspelled surnames etc.) searches in the GRO.
Regards
Kevin

The 1911 question relates to children born alive.
Why not post the details here and we can look.

Some burial registers show " stillborn of xxxx".

The 1911 question relates to children born alive.
I know but that is why I am confused. The census record shows Watson Ferguson (Furgeson). Shows 11 children born alive (1911 census of England, County Durham, RG 78 PN 1717A, RG 14 PN 29572, registration district (RD) 544, sub district (SD) 1, enumeration district (ED) 26, schedule number (SN) 229).
The issue is that of the 11 it shows 7 still living, 4 deceased, however, I have accounted for 12 children born (all proven with birth certificates) with his 2 wives (his first wife died and he re-married). Now of the 12 children, 2 were born with his first wife, 10 with his second wife (he was a busy man apparently!).
So the numbers don't really add up. I know one of his children from the first marriage died in infancy (3 months old in 1878 ). Given that his son filled out the 1911 census I guess he could have just made a mistake as he wasn't born when the first child passed.
Husband Watson (Listed as Walter) JUN Stockton 1853
1st Wife Ann (Ward) Jane DEC Stockton 1853
1 George Thomas SEP Middlesbrough 1878
2 John Robert JUN Middlesbrough 1881
1st wife deceased Watson then married
2nd Wife Sarah Ann (Priest) MAR Dudley 1862
3 Florence (Furgeson) SEP Middlesbrough 1884
4 Albert DEC Middlesbrough 1885
5 Tobias JUN Middlesbrough 1887
6 Watson DEC Middlesbrough 1888
7 John James (Furgeson) JUN Middlesbrough 1890
8 George MAR Middlesbrough 1892
9 William MAR Middlesbrough 1894
10 Jane Ann (Furgeson) SEP Middlesbrough 1895
11 Watson SEP Stockton 1899
12 Lilian DEC Stockton 1903
I am just trying to make sure of my research over what the census said.

It was possible that the son was given the answers by one of his parents. I can only see 10 births to the 2nd marriage as well which is what the question relates to.
The five with the family in 1911 plus
Florence SEP Middlesbrough 1884
Tobias JUN Middlesbrough 1887
Those who died in infancy
Albert DEC Middlesbrough 1885
Watson DEC Middlesbrough 1888
Lilian DEC Stockton 1903
Have you looked at baptisms and burials

I have looked at the death registers but not baptism or burials. The family moved between counties but because Stockton and Middlesbrough are each side of the river Tees (the county boundary) the searches are twice the effort. The whole Thornaby issue is there as well. Geographically it is in North Yorkshire, but often it is listed as Durham. I have the same issue with my Teesdale branch. Why they couldn't just stick to one side of the Tees is beyond me! LOL (says the person in the USA!)
I am leaning towards the son not being given the correct number from his father. I am pretty sure his father couldn't read or write so maybe he couldn't count either?
