Alfred Edward Rowles served with the Royal West Kent Regiment in WW1.
He died of Wounds 4.10.1916 in Battle of the Somme.
Buried: Puchevilliers British Cemetery.
Can the writing be made a bit more readable?
-
Well it isn't necessarily a better photo but you can read it slightly more easily - not much wrong with the original apart from low resolution.

Two versions from me. For the first I scrubbed the stone and retook the photo. For the second I used a hook to discretely hold the roses back from the date. The hardest part was swimming underwater between Australia and France, then avoiding Covid marshalls while travelling to the cemetery.

Just a b&w try

Thank you to everyone that has contributed.
I always knew what was written on this headstone but now I can read it.
Well done everybody.

A friend of mine who saw this post has asked me to post this tip: To read headstones, bring a small bag of flour and a 2" paint brush. Gently flick the flour onto the headstone, and brush away any flour on the flat part. The flour will stay in the crevice of any writing and make it legible. When you are done, make sure to brush off all flour from the writing & face of headstone!
