Have you seen the 1851 entry? He is shown as Robert Balls jnr which suggests his father was also Robert
Robert jnr is in Field Dalling in 1851 & there is a 55yr old Robert Balls in Field Dalling in 1841

Only one Robert Balls baptised in Trunch around the relevant time:
Robert Balls bp.29/5/1808 Trunch, illeg. son of Mary Balls.

The older Robert was buried 6 Jul 1868, St Andrew, Field Dalling
Age 86
(1782)
Note; in margin old soldier under Duke of Wellington thro: all his campaigns
Wife Mary was buried 17 Dec 1869 same Church
Widow, age 72
Note; widow of Rbt Balls the soldier under Duke of Wellington
All on FreeREG
Given her age may be a second Wife of Robert

The older Robert Balls married Mary Norman at Field Dalling on 16 Nov 1819. He was a bachelor she was slinster. One witness was Ann Balls. Other witness John Allison. Bot ball made their mark, Mary and John signed.
There is an Ann Balls of similar age living next door to Robert in 1861 census

i have found senior / junior or elder / younger pairs not always being father and son, sometimes uncle and nephew. Can be just a way of distinguishing two people of the same name in a community. I have found once two females referred to as elder and younger when a woman's son married a wife with the same forename as herself.

In 1837 Ann Balls b Field Dalling age 83 unmarried is a lodger with Thomas Balls b Field Dalling age 34 and his wife Emily and son Robert. Could she be aunt / great aunt? From Thomas's marriage record he is son of Robert occ butcher, so looks like he's the son of Robert junior.
-
found Thomas's baptism now 26 Jun 1836 at FD s/o Robert and Charlotte.
Possible family: Robert snr has sisters Ann and Mary.
Mary gives birth to Robert jnr, Robert snr marries Mary Norman, Ann remains unmarried
-
Could be a big coincidence but..
On Thomas Balls and Emily's marriage record one witness was Stratton Balls.
A Sarah Balls was baptised in FD on 6 May 1784 (born 02 May 1784), she was daughter of Thomas Balls and Hannah his wife late Hannah Stratton. (Good old vicar, gave us a bit of extra info there!).
Is Sarah part of the same family?
-
Anne Balls bapt 27 Apr 1789 FD born the day before , same parents as above
-
And Mary Balls bapt FD 28 Jan 1787 d/o Thomas and Hannah nee Stratton
Could be Robert jnr's mother
-
And Maria Balls born 10 Aug 1790, bapt 15 Aug 1790 at FD d/o Thomas and Hannah. I think she married Benjamin Rainer of Letheringsett in FD on 30 Nov 1814. One witness was Edmund Balls. So another name to connect
-
Thomas Balls bapt 11 Sep 1755 Field Dalling s/o John and Sarah
Thomas Balls buried FD on 05 Dec 1838 age
84, which matches above baptism
-
Hannah Stratton (x) sp and Thomas Balls bac botp married on 25 Oct 1779 at Erpingham Norfolk. Wits John Wild and Henry Wright
-
Robert 1811's possible Mother?
Living in Trunch*
1851 Census
William Wells 69 Head Mar Superannuated Officer, Stamp Dept born Norwich
MARY Wells 63 Wife Mar born Dalling***
1861 Mary Wells is a widow visiting unm Ann Balls. Robert/Mary Balls living next door.
1841 in Trunch;
William Wells 55 Independant
Mary Wells 50
I cant see a Marriage for them that fits but Mary have been married before.
-
I had seen Mary Wells in 1861 with Ann Balls and wondered... But hadn't spotted her in Trunch earlier. Maybe William Wells was already married and had left his wife for Mary Balls or a marriage is further away than expected.
-
Robert Balls snr left a will, probate to Hannah Ives widow. Think she's Mary Newman's younger sister, so would be Robert's s-i-law.
There's a Robert Stratton Balls around somewhere - found him late last night but gone now. Possibly the Stratton who was witness on a marriage I found earlier.
I think Thomas and Hannah nee Stratton's first child was John bapt Erpingham, he might be Robert Stratton Balls father.
-
William Wells (residence Trunch) was buried on 01 Nov 1858 at Erpingham age 77
-
I saw a Robert Stratton Balls on FreeREG Bapt 7 June 1812 Hindringham to JOHN/ANN Balls (Ann nee Barnes)
Buried 24 Nov 1831 age 19 Aylsham
Got to sign out.
Trish :)

Mary Wells buried Field Dalling on 31 May 1867 age 80
-
Not sure if it helps but Robert Balls and Charlotte Reynolds were both witnesses at the marriage of
John Reynolds to Anne Lake at Langham 19 October 1832.
