Title: 1884 Birth Certificate - Wootton R.S.D.
Post by: Mpb56 on Saturday 01 May 21 09:30 BST (UK)
I have a pdf copy of a birth certificate from 1884 which lists the place of birth as Wootton R.S.D. Please could some one clarify if this means the birth happened in what is now Cricklade and Wootton Bassett or some where else - thank you!

What is the address of the informant?  Is that also Wootton RSD?

No - informant was the mother and she registered the birth in Abingdon but not until the 14 July. Abingdon was her home town. The 1881 census shows her living in London but subsequent ones show her in Abingdon. There is no father listed on the child's birth certificate and my research shows that she was an unmarried mother so I suspect she moved home after the birth of her daughter.

According to the GRO - Abingdon Registration District covers Wootton.

If you use FreeBMD and search for Emily May registered September quarter 1884 in Abingdon Registration District, then you can click on Abingdon and there is a list of Civil Parishes within that District.

Sorry if I'm stating something you already know.
