Title: Help deciphering German shorthand from 1947

Hi everybody, I am hoping somebody might be able to help me decipher the attached. It is an entry from German grandmother’s diary in shorthand from 1947. I’m dying to know what it says! Thank you very much in advance for any help!!

i can´t read shorthand but the text at the top and bottom read

vergebliche Mühe aufgewandt. Das
war zu schlimm, das kann mann
nicht so schnell vergessen.
wasted effort. That was so bad, you can't forget that so quickly

heute ist Ernie in Urlaub gefahren
wir ??? nicht trennen.
Today Ernie went on vacation we ??? can not be separated

i found someone who transcribt your shorthand.

i am happy. Ernst? said today that we should get engaged and marry.
I think we should wait until he comes back from his holidays and then we´ll see.
But I think we really love each other and the answer will then be ... (I hope) on ... has ... ..in? married.

I can just about read the German but wouldn't have had a hope with shorthand.

I didn't respond earlier as yesterday was my first day at a new job - 24 hours doesn't seem to me to be so very late, in any case!
