Title: Ceylon - death of child (father in the military based at Fort Frederick)
Post by: PJaneB8 on Wednesday 05 May 21 12:21 BST (UK)
Hi
I have been trying to find out more about the death of Annie Eliza Maria Hammond at the age of 4 years 9 months. She was the daughter of my great-grandfather, Master Gunner Alfred Simon Hammond, who was based at Fort Frederick at the time. Where would death certificates of children of those serving in the military be held? I have found nothing in the National Archives, or on any of the usual genealogy websites.
I know that Annie was buried on 23 February 1894 at St Stephen' Church, Trincamolee, and I know that St Stephen's Church was bombed during WW2 and never rebuilt but does the graveyard and/or the headstone still exist? I have in my possession a letter from someone at the R E Office, Fort Frederick dated 21 November 1897 to my great-grandfather (Annie's father) about the arrangements for a headstone, so wonder where this would be now.
I would be grateful for any further information
