Hello
Robert Allison Cully/Culley was born 26 Jan 1905 in Cushendall, registered Ballycastle to parents Robert and Eliza ( Lizzie) .
But I cant find anything about him and know very little about his parents . Keen to learn more.
His father Robert Cully /Culley was according to the 1901 Irish Census born Armagh . On that census he is single and living as a Boarder with the Irvine family at Naul ,Tynan . On the the 1911 Irish census he is married and living with his wife and son at Garfield Place Ballymena and working as a Labourer . Census says they have been marred 7 years but I haven't managed to find a marriage cert on GRONI.
His wife Lizzie is Eliza Jane McKinley b 8/7/1867 Kilbegs . surname shown as Mckinly on some records . She is the daughter of Robert McKinley and Mary Jane Armstrong /McKinley of Randalstown. Both dead before the 1901 Census.
I haven't managed to find Eliza in the 1901 Census .
I looked at couple of deaths for a Robert Cully in the years shortly after the 1911 census in case that would explain my missing persons but no luck. The one 3/12/1912 Belfast is for a 2 year old child. The one 29/1/1922 Belfast is also not for either of my Robert Cullys as the informant ant was the son in law of the person who died .
So what happened to Robert Allison Cully and his parents . ?
Grateful for any information.
Thank you .

Have you tried searching for them outside Ireland? From their ages in 1911 it may be that one or both were married previously.
An online tree says Robert Allison Cully married Isabella McDowell Templeton but source is 'Ancestry Family Tree.'

The civil marriage registration is free to view on the 'irishgenealogy' website:

Eliza’s address when she married in 1901 was 18 Aberdeen St. I noted this family in Aberdeen St in the 1901 census.

I suspect it’s Eliza’s brother. Here’s his marriage certificate in 1900, living at 18 Aberdeen St. As with Eliza, the father was Robert, a miller.

Thank you all. Yes despite looking else where for Robert Allison Cully and family found nothing. And here was me thinking it was such a good name.
Thank you for all the useful links.
Sorry not to reply sooner but needed to check a few things but have confused myself even more. I suspect there Could have been quite a few Robert McKinleys as Millers in the area ?
I have James McKinley the brother to Eliza marrying a Ellen McNichol 1/11/1895 in Ballymena . And i have James and Ellen On the 1901 census living at Kilbegs ,Randalstown with 2 children Louisa 4 and John 1 and not in Belfast .
I know these are the correct children as in contact with a direct descendant . (their son Robert b3/4/1898 Larne dies 21/6/1899 Drummaul, antrim ) so thinking it unlikely the Belfast James and Ellen are connected to this family--but its quite a coincidence with the link to milling.
I have James brother of Eliza Jane dying 15/3/1903 in Ballymena --will need to recheck that . In due course his wife remarries Allan foster Craig. You can see why I am confused.
Looking again at my list of poss children of Robert McKinley and Mary Jane Armstrong from Kilbegs Randalstown I have a Bessie McKinley --no details. So now wondering if its Bessie/Elizabeth/Lizzie that marries Robert Cully and Not Eliza jane? Not that it takes us anyway forward.
I do appreciate your time and help on these mystery people.
Thank You .

There only appear to be two Cully/Culley families in Ballymena at 1911. Robert, wife and son, as mentioned earlier in thread:
http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1911/Antrim/Ballymena_Town/Garfield_Place/116601/
and an Andrew, with a much older than him wife, no family
http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1911/Antrim/Ballymena_Town/Hill_Street/116684/.
Likely their marriage in Armagh https://civilrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/details-civil/b008fd2500513
Ballymena Petty sessions has a rather long entry in July 1920, concerning a House Possession case involving a by then widowed Andrew
( his wife's death https://civilrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/details-civil/4694325732551 )
of Hill Street and his brother Robert, who had a wife and 16 yr old son. Robert and family, at some time prior to 1920, had lived in William Street, but after the death of Andrew's wife, then moved in with him.
Robert Cully was in William Street by at least 1915, when he put a personal notice in various newspaper's Missing Relatives section, re a John Brannigan of Armagh, who had been in Ballymena 4 months prior, but last heard of in Larne.

There was a * Cully at 11 Alfred Street, Ballymena in 1959. And a * Cully at same address in 1950. Both seemed to have been young men at the time.
* I have removed names in case either/both are still living

A Robert Cully married an Isabell Templeton on 14th July 1925 in Ballymena.

How interesting. And Garfield Place is were my Robert and family are in 1911.How did you find the Robert and Isabella marriage.? There are a few trees on line but none with any dates or records for Robert Allison Cully.
Never ceases to amaze me how popular names are.
From the Deaths it's Elizabeth Cully so perhaps I am correct in thinking that she is a sister to Eliza Jane and not Eliza Jane as in my first post. Similar names . But haven't found a separate birth.
Thank you.

Thank You. Have now looked up the marriage . So she was Isabell Dowell Templeton after all. Married in Harryville Presbyterian church as you say on 14/7/1925. Robert Allison Cully, a coach painter . His father Robert listed as a Labourer. Her father William listed as a Plumber .
