Title: Letters from a German PoW - Records to match!
Post by: matt94 on Sunday 30 May 21 13:50 BST (UK)
Hello,

Total newbie when it comes to German records here!

I've recently obtained some letters from a German PoW who was interned in Britain in 1947. The man was writing to a lady in Strassberg (the envelope says Wurttemberg-Hohenzollern).

From the letters, it seems the man was born in September 1920. I wondered if I could find out more about his family and whether he married after his interment.

Are there any Birth or Marriage records available from that area from the mid-20th Century to be able to conduct a search?

Thanks in advance,
Matt

Hi Matt

German privacy laws guard the following documents for a period of:

Births – 110 years
Marriages – 80 years
Deaths – 30 years

So a birth record for someone born 1920 will be made public in 2030

regards
Dave
