Title: Daisy Chasmer
Post by: godfreychas on Monday 31 May 21 08:22 BST (UK)
I have found entries for a Daisy Chasmer (father Thomas) being admitted to schools in Lewisham (11sep1888) and Southwark (5oct1891) which give her DoB as 25nov1882.

However I cannot find her in UK births, deaths or censuses. I have searched on the addresses given in the admissions, and on any person called Daisy with a DoB of 25nov1882.

Any ideas to track down who she was?

So if I'm understanding, this Daisy was a name you found on the register and you are trying to find more information about her rather than knowing about her first? Do you have any suspicions about who her mother was (particularly maiden name)?

I would expect that "Chasmer" could be spelled various ways as well.

Edit-
What about this one for investigation?

School Record I can see says father was William not Thomas  ???

Sorry you are correct WILLIAM not Thomas.

I have no information other than that listed so no mother's name.

I am trying to find out who she is and how she links to my family as with a name such as Chasmer it is unusual.

It could be a variation i.e Chasmer but both school records show Chasmer.

But even as a name variation I cant find her birth.

I thought I was onto something for a bit there but my suggestion appears to be on the 1939 with a dob of 5 Jan 1883  >:(

Birth Date:   abt 1845
Marriage Date:   30 Nov 1879
Marriage Place:   Christ Church, Southwark, Southwark, England

Thomas Chasmer

I have this marriage but have no record of them having any children

Her birth name was Savage and she married a ???? Wells and was then widowed.

Always sad when I read about my ancestors being in a workhouse and when the families were often so large.

I can't find any children either (or the 1881 census). How annoying.

Can anyone find out who was living at 7 McKerrell(?) Road in 1891?

It is so odd that she has ben admitted to two schools, and with mention of other schools, there are addresses but no birth record or census data.  Frustrating.

Can't make out the correct spelling of McKerrell or McKennell or ??? Road

It might be around somewhere, just hiding! In my family I have such things as 'missing' birth records because someone pretended to be married to someone else, or wasn't quite married yet or, in one notable occasion, gave birth two years after her husband died (baby later took her maiden name and was raised by other family members, hence the confusion). Other times the records don't make it easy- I lost my CARTER family until I eventually painstakingly went through the census by hand and found them transcribed as LEOTA (how was I supposed to find that??)

One thing I find interesting is that I cannot find Daisy in the Education Records on Find My Past.  Perhaps they haven't got the records for that particular area.

Have you looked for Margaret s
Daisy was often an abbreviation

dont want to put a spanner in the works  school records the column usually reads Parent OR Guardian
So william could have been an uncle grandfather or even big brother

Agree with all the recent comments.   Ethel Jane on Ancestry births as Chasman but on GRO index as Chasmar mmn Foster.   Son Philip in 1891 was born as William Philip Chasma(nr) Sept.1886 on Ancestry but as Chasmar on GRO index mmn Foster.  Baptised, as was Ethel, with Mary in 1891.  Ethel's birth date given as 29/12/1888 but must have been 1887 as birth reg'd Mar.1888.

So, 'Mary' (Mary F in 1891) looks like she may well have been 'Daisy' as a child and was certainly born before parents married in 1886.

Just for info. Mary Foster Chasmar married George Rupert Hilsden. Appear in 1911 census. They had several children easily found,  Both appear on 1939 register but at separate addresses, Mary's dob as per school record. Mary died aged 84 in Taunton in 1966 and George Rupert died 1969 Taunton.

The electoral register for 1893 shows a William Chasmer at 7 McKerrell Road 9as Daisy's school admission form in 1891).  But is this the same William that married Sarah Foster with the daughter Mary who has the same birth date at Daisy?

Can you follow the electoral register through to 1901?

I gave the 1901 census details for William and Sarah at Reply#18.  They were living here then:-

BRIGIDMAC. The DoB on the baptism is the same. Interesting but connected to me as I am a Chasmer and it seems this family is a Chasmar.
