I am told that Joseph Watterson/Waterson died in Manhattan in Aug 1962. Would like his obituary if possible to see if it mentions any of his siblings, especially any that had also emigrated. He did have a sister Margaret Helena Watterson that returned to New York in 1935 to 556 West 140 St. but don't know who else may have lived at that residence. Don't know if she married after 1935. Joseph was born 1904 and Margaret Helena 1906.

I didn't see an obituary, but the NY City death index gives his date of death as 26 Aug. 1962.

Did you check to see if Margaret Helena Watterson went back to Ireland ?

Thank you, shellyesq for Joseph's exact date of death. And thank you, Rosie17 for the info about Margaret Helena. I wonder if that could be Margaret who died in Belfast in 1997. She did have a brother Robert John Watterson who was a chemist and grocer in Belfast in 1939 - wonder if it could be John Walterson who died in 1981. Robert John and Margaret Helena did travel to New York together in 1929 and I believe they had contact throughout the years. I don't recognize the name Mary Haveron. I will look into the death of Margaret and John.

I notice also in Belfast City Cemetery is Elizabeth Watterson, died age 80 which would fit perfectly for Robert John's wife who was born 1894. Maybe Robert John remarried after 1974 to Mary Haveron.

I have written to Belfast City Cemetery with enquiries about Margaret Watterson, John Walterson, and Elizabeth Watterson, whose ages at death all fit with date of birth. Elizabeth was Robert John's wife and there is an Elizabeth in another section of the cemetery who died 1974 age 80 which age fits her dob of 1894. Here's hoping to find out something about them all.

Yes, Sandra is absolutely wonderful and she did find the death of Alexander Watterson and other info about him but I don't recall his travel in 1921 with Lena and Agnes Pattison/Patterson, going to cousin Archie Pattison in New Jersey. I am looking for parents of those Pattisons as we speak. Alexander Watterson's parents were Joseph Watterson and Margaret Jane Patterson. OK, I have found Lena and Agnes' parents as Robert Pattison and Agnes Cowan and I know Margaret Jane Watterson nee Pattison had a brother Robert John. So there's that connection. Haven't found Archie Pattison's birth.

you guys are ahead of me, Rosie17 and Sandra. I have found the baptisms of Agnes, Lena aka Helena, and Archibald to Samuel Pattison/Patterson and Sarah Jane Morris.
When Agnes is born, mother is Sarah Jane Morris.
When Archibald is born, mother is Sarah Wallace.
When Lena is born, mother is Sarah jane Morrison - all the same mother. I found them on the 1901 census in Drumenagh, 1911 in Ballymuckleheany. I have verified that Samuel's father when he married was Archibald Patterson, same as Margaret Jane and Robert John. So same family, making Archie Patterson, and Alexander Watterson cousins. I didn't know about Samuel Pattison previously.
This shows how easily we or I could go astray with both Robert John and Samuel naming two of their daughters Agnes and Helena aka Lena.
It is of note that Archibald Sr.'s wife is Mary Jane Watterson, daughter of Leonard Watterson and the elusive Eliza Martha Martin that we have searched long and hard for, for her death.

This is an incredible amount of information to wake up to this morning. Thank you so very much Sandra. Rev. Eseppi was certainly having problems with his property on Birch Hill Road. I have to wonder about Jean Pattison being born in New Zealand-was she adopted or something?
I see John D. Roberts was living in Glen Cove, Nassau in 1930. Some member of the Watterson family that we were researching recently died there and I’m trying to remember who. I will be watching for it as I review this family.

So Archie was in Benardoville, New Jersey, when his sisters Agnes and Lena emigrated in 1921, also Alexander Watterson. In Jan 1925, he is on the New York passenger list, presuming returning from Ireland - maybe a visit. then he is in New Zealand, returning in 1929. So went to New Zealand between 1925 and 1929. When was he on the Electoral Rolls in New Zealand.? He gets about, in days when travel was not so easy or cheap.
