Post by: weemalla on Friday 04 June 21 03:46 BST (UK)
I'm trying to find details of George Stephen(s) birth, death, Marriage details. What i have is that his daughter Jemima married in 1848 in Stepney, London  and emigrated to Australia 1856 and her marriage cert to James Tonkin give father as a Tailor.  Nothing more is known of George or his wife Ann Howett. All help is appreciated.

Do you not have any Australian certs to find where she was born?  Her death registration says Cornwall.

Yes the death cert for daughter Jemima says born in Cornwall, but I'm looking for info on her parents George & Ann nee Howett. Its a fair bet that the parents were born and died in Cornwall but specific dates, places etc would be appreciated.

When did your George come to Australia,  which colony?  Your enquiry has landed on the Australia Board....

Ihave never found anything that suggests that George did come to Aust. Daughter Jemima came with her husband and 6 or 7 children in 1856, she would have been about age 44 at that time.

Have you considered asking your question on the Cornwall, England, board?

I know you are trying to find the parents of Jemima Stephens but these few snippets may be helpful.

There are some non-conformist baptisms which appear to be the family

From
England & Wales, Non-Conformist and Non-Parochial Registers, RG4: Registers of Births, Marriages and Deaths, London
Piece 4162: London, Ebenezer and Other Chapels (Bible Christian),

Baptised 24 May, 1824 at the parents' house, children of George Stephens, tailor, and his wife, Ann (daughter of Thomas and Elizabeth Howett) in the parish of Shoreditch.
Jemima Stephens, born 15 October, 1812
Grace Stephens, born  15 February, 1816
Joseph Stephens, born 6 June, 1821.

There is this marriage:
27 Aug 1805, at St Mary, Newington, Southwark, by banns
George Stephens, bachelor
Ann Howett, spinster
Both of the parish
Wtinesses Wm Williams, Sarah Stump?

Hi Judith,
That's good to see because it confirms George as a tailor.

On the connected thread there is discussion on deciphering the occupation of George STEPHENS shown on the marriage of Jemima and James.
Sailor, Tailor or Jailor ;D
