Title: Dealt with slow computer - big mistake!
Post by: LAJM44 on Friday 04 June 21 16:18 BST (UK)
Our computer (desk-top) has been getting slower and slower (a bit like me really), so we thought we would do the "let's get rid of the dross, then remove the excess cookies" exercise.  We've done it before and, yes, it's a bit tedious having to re-sign into all the sites we use, but it has worked before.  However, this time it has totally wrecked the sign-in to THIS site and it wouldn't work at all.  So, I re-registered but couldn't use the e-mail address I'd used previously, nor could I use a mix-up of my previous user name...it kept telling me someone already had that.  So, I've had to change my identity and it looks like I have to do yet another strange 'verification' at the bottom of this before it will be posted.  Having already spent nearly an hour on it, I'm fed up.  And all because I wanted to read some of the posts in my areas of interest! ??? ??? >:(

Why not contact Trystan, he may be able to sort out the problem you are having with this site

Thanks, rosie, I will do that; at the time I couldn't contact Technical Help as it wanted me to register whatever I tried to do.  And typing this right now, I see I have to do a 'verification' yet again so I'm getting mightily hacked off!  Verification is : a line of six letters written in a weird way that you have to type; then 3 questions...this time they are: "In a leap years, how many days are there in February", "What is the fifth letter of the name of this site", and "What do trees have under their soil".  G-r-r-r!!  >:( >:( >:(

Hi, Sarah:

I did send you a message at around mid-day to say that we were having trouble with other sites too and in the end decided to restore the computer to yesterday morning.  I logged in just now following that process and it seems to be accepting me on my old login as "lydiaann", so I appear to be back to normal...as I said in my previous message, I was beginning to doubt my real identity!!

So, thank you for your help.  I'll carry on and see if we have any more problems, but I think everything should be okay, having gone through a large number of items in the forum.  I'm going to try a post to see if I get the "verification" bits.

I do appreciate having you and the tech team on hand to help us all when we somehow find ourselves in the "slough of despond".  Thank you so much, and take care.

Hello lydiaann,

Glad to see you "back as you are" I had seen and replied to your other profile.

It is only new members who would see the verification notification for their first 2 posts so you will not see it on either profile.

If you need any help changing your email address just let me know.

Regards

Sarah
