Title: Strathblane churchyard and cemetery monumental inscriptions
Post by: apodo on Thursday 10 June 21 22:24 BST (UK)
Hi there everyone.

I was wondering if anyone had a copy of "Strathblane Churchyard and Cemetery Monumental Inscriptions".

I'm looking for my great-great-grandmother Elizabeth Wither (née Norval), who died on 14th April 1885 in Glasgow. I found that there's a record of an "Elizabeth Withen" [sic], who was buried in Strathblane Churchyard on 17th April 1885. This is almost certainly the Elizabeth I'm looking for.

Also, according to:

http://www.interment.net/data/scotland/stirling/strathblane/surnames-m-z.htm (http://www.interment.net/data/scotland/stirling/strathblane/surnames-m-z.htm)

Elizabeth Withen is buried in grave number 175. Also in this grave is James Norval, who died in 1875. James is the brother of Elizabeth.

If anyone has the MI book, could they please have a quick look for me? I looked to buy it online, but it seems to be out of stock. I've also emailed Stirling Council to try to confirm she's here with documentation.

Thanks for your time!

Burial records cam be searched here

https://data.stirling.gov.uk/dataset/cemetery-records/resource/e2c373ba-86b8-404c-8ff7-4d91cd9acb59

This confirms info you have. Elizabeth's age is given as 0. Not sure if this means elizabeth was infant or whether there is no age recorded.

Hi there and thanks for coming back to me.

I already saw that, but it's most likely to mean the age isn't recorded, as everything else fits. Also, remember they've made a mistake already with the spelling error. If James Norval hadn't been buried in the same lair, I might've thought I was wrong; also, I've checked to see if there was an Elizabeth Withen/Wither, aged 0, who died in 1885 in Scotland on the NRS, and there is none.

I'm waiting for Stirling Council to come back to me, hopefully with a lair record.

Thanks again,

David

Stirling council have confirmed that it was a digitisation mistake from the original lair record, so I can confirm that it is my great-great-grandmother Elizabeth Wither (née Norval) who is buried in grave 175 with her brother James Norval, their brother Archibald Norval being the proprietor of the lair. Her age was set as 0/unknown. I've tentatively suggested Stirling council update their records!

Hopefully, there will be a headstone.

I'm guessing no one will have the MI book for Strathblane?

That's great, thanks so much!  ;D

I've just ordered one.

It will help me memorialise a good few people who I know are related to the Norvals.

Apodo, I was so excited to find you were also searching for Elizabeth Wither but sadly my Elizabeth lived in Wigtonshire, Scotland and it looks like she was born abt.1794.
