I have a mystery in the family of John Joseph TILLEY and Lois SKELLAMS who were married in Uppingham and lived there. In the 1911 census they declared 7 births: 2 still living; 5 died. I've confirmed this except for one of the deaths.
Using the GRO indexes I found:
John Henry Edgar Tilley born 1894; died February 1889; buried February 16th 1899
and John Herbert Everett Tilley born Uppingham (7A 353) M 1896 - but nothing else.
Cheers Alan
Anyone any idea what happened to him?

I found the following :
Emily SQ 1892 died 1892
John Henry Edgar JQ 1894 d 1899
Elsie May SQ 1897 d 1898
Thomas William Percy SQ 1900 d 1902
John George b 1882 d 1882 ( mmn Skellains )
Mary Sophia DQ 1890
John Herbert Everitt b MQ 1896
This would leave Mary Sophia and John H E as the two still alive in 1911. Is John H E the same man as George Herbert Everitt Tilley who appears in other records His death record gives birthdate 6 Jan 1896 and his service record says next of kin is mother Mrs L Tilley in Uppingham.

Many thanks, I'm sure you are right.
I had completely missed Elsie May!!
Now that's solved one issue, I wonder why they had such a dreadful infant mortality. I'll be looking into that next.
This really was a close knit family. It seems that they were occupying half of of the houses Rope Walk, Uppingham around the turn of the century.
... and then following up of George Herbert, I find that he married his first cousin. A common practice though in those days!!
Cheers Alan
