Arthur (Art) Edward Satherley died in Fountain Valley, Orange, California in 1986. His obituaries state he was survived by his wife Harriet and daughter Judi and her husband - surname Rieck. Harriet is Harriet Helen Melka who passed away in 1994.
I can't find anything with Judi's surname being Satherley however the birth of her children give her maiden name as Johns!
Can anyone help shed any light for me with this mystery please?

Not sure this is relevant or not - there was a Judi Johns Trio in California ? Some of the names might be stage names or similar ?

The family were definitely involved in the entertainment scene, so it could well be that the surname of Johns is a stage name, but has definitely been used as a maiden name on the birth certificates of the children which would make me think there was something official for the name change from Satherley!? Confusing!

The first two children were born 1962 before the marriage to Reick. Second one born 1969 after the marriage to Leroy E Reick - two different fathers ?

Arthur Edward Satherley lived with Harriet Melka and her daughter Judythe Beryl Hares in Southern California. I haven't proven that Art and Harriet ever officially married. They lived together until his death. Perhaps they marred after his wife passed. Judythe was born 16 Feb 1931 in St. Louis MO. MO birth record Harriet H Melka and Ernest J Hares as parents. Also they are all listed on the 1940 St. Louis census. Ernest was a musician and professor of music. Harriet was a singer. They divorced sometime between 1940 census and 1942 WWII card. Harriet and Judy moved to California.
Judy was married to Paul E. Cloyd (my uncle) in Las Vegas 1960. They had twins in 1962, (*) and (*)who were later adopted by Judy's second husband LeRoy Rieck and names were changed to (*) and (*)Rieck. Judy and LeRoy also had a son together. Judy's other names (Marsh and Johns) were her stage names. She was a singer and performer in the 50's and 60's.
