Title: Will of John Turner
Post by: MattD30 on Monday 21 June 21 01:50 BST (UK)
Hi All

I'm hoping someone can help here. The attached image comes from the will of a possible ancestor John Turner from Sussex. The problem I am having is deciphering where this John was from. It looks like it says "John Turner of Tableherst in the countie of Sussex gentleman" however I can't find any place called "Tableherst" [or any other spelling].

Does anyone know if I'm reading this right or can anyone say where this place is?

Thanks everyone
Matt

There is a place called Tablehurst Farm I found by googling.  It’s in Sussex, but  entry I can see is Facebook and I don’t have Facebook

Forest Row

Also, looks like an area in Crowborough is named Tablehurst
Added, might just be a house?

Just to add to Mckha's many finds, this from TNA:

A wildcard search in TNA Discovery will often find matches for now-obscure places.

Hi

Thanks for all those amazing and very interesting replies. At least I know I had read it correctly!

Is this place is anywhere near Hartfield? My Turners [sometimes Tornors or Torners] are located then and later in Withyham. This will is in my "Turner Research" file but I can't remember why.

If I could work out who this man was and if there was a link to Hartfield or if the places were close by then I could probaby get somewhere lol!

Anyhow  thanks again everyone.

Matt

Thanks that has helped a massive amount  :)

I don't think this John is part of my Turner line but it was probably a will I had got a copy of in order to check.

More on the Turner family further down...about halfway on page ( use find on page feature)
In 1580, Imberhorne Manor House was leased from the Sackville family by John Turner(1) of Tablehurst in Forest Row, who took out a 99-year lease on the property being succeeded by his son Sackville Turner on his death in 1581. Sackville Turner died in 1636 and was succeeded by John Turner(2) who died in 1662 leaving seventeen years of the Turner lease to run....
