Title: Death 1897 in Bagneres-de-Bigorre, Hautes-Pyrenees
Post by: rvchrr on Tuesday 06 July 21 13:56 BST (UK)
Hi all,
Looking for advice on obtaining a copy of a death entry in the Hautes-Pyrenees in 1897. Have obtained many others from online French departmental archives but as far as I can see this one falls just outside what the department has digitised.

The death was of one Alicia Eleanor BRADSTREET who died in Bagneres-de-Bigorre on 11 Jan 1897 (according to her probate). The Bagneres deaths are online down to 1892 but not beyond. The department doesn't seem to field genealogical enquiries.

Are these perhaps online where I haven't found them? If not would anyone be able to look at this for me or perhaps recommend a researcher who could obtain a copy?

Thanks, Roger

I cannot help specifically, but why not email the departement directly with your query?
It would be a zero cost option to try before splashing out on a researcher!

You could try making an online request here :

https://www.service-public.fr/particuliers/vosdroits/F1444

Not sure if they send abroad though.  It's a free service so worth an attempt.

Thanks very much for that jayaygee.  That looks promising.  I do have some connections in other parts of France who'd be prepared to request it from there for me so that may be a viable route.

Thanks again.

Thanks for the inputs joger.

Yes, the name stands out in the south of France and have previously readily obtained other original entries of interest online.  This death is outstanding being a date not covered.  Actually I'm seeking the death entry more for its birth details than the death where I have the essential details from the probate.

Do you know how old she was when she died?

Thanks joger,

Useful to have the confirmation that that's definitely where the death was recorded.  Believe she was about 80y.

Alicia Elinor Bradstreet , daughter of Clare Margaret Murphy and sir Simon Bradstreet , 4 th baronet  and sister of Sir Edmund Simon Bradstreet 6th baronet (born in Castilla, Clontarf Dublin county)

May be Alicia Elinor ( or Eleanor) was born there too.

Yes it's certainly a possibility she was born in Ireland.  She appears to have been born at a time when the family could have been in either Ireland or France so am hoping the French death entry will state her place of birth.

Thanks again joger.

As I mentioned in my original posting I already have the family pretty well documented.  It's just Alicia's birth that is so far proving elusive.  Undoubtedly recorded but perhaps unindexed and offline at present although if in Ireland the record may not have survived.

Update to my earlier posting:
My French contact advises me that the 'service-public.fr' website only appears to field requests for post 1900 deaths so not of use in my case.  However she applied direct to the local mairie's office who quickly advised her by telephone that they were dealing with her request and she received a paper copy in the mail within a week.  Don't know whether I'd have been so successful with a direct request from England.

So a good result especially as it confirmed Miss Bradstreet's birthplace as Ireland not France.

Thanks again to everybody for your helpful advices.
