Has anyone come across the use of the name Cissie as a term for a sister?
-
Yes, my step-grandma was always called Cissie because she had half a dozen brothers. When I researched her she was actually called Sarah Jane.

I've jsut remembered that I had a distant cousin who was referred to as Cissie. I've just checked my tree and find that her parents had two daughters who might fit - Beatrice and an Elsie.

Certainly Cissie is a recognised Christian name.

Certainly with this ‘Cissie’ a family member remembers her married surname name. So I think that it’s got to Mary as I have her married to him.
Oh the joys !!!!

My grandma was known by all as "Cissie" - she was the eldest sister in quite a long family. She was really called Annie Elizabeth, but no-one ever used that.
She was, I suppose, really "Sissie" (i.e., "Sister")

Thank you looking to be the right person for me

Great-aunt Ciss was actually Mary Ellen - eldest sister of 5 boys and 5 girls (the three middle girls died young, leaving Mary Ellen and the youngest one as the only girls)

My great granddad only had sisters and one was 16 years older than him. When he was small her couldn't say 'sister' so he called her his 'Cissie'. This stuck and hardly anybody who I've spoke to in the family knew she was really called Ivy. She had a niece called Ivy who would tell people 'I'm named after my Auntie Cissie'.

Love it

Not really I wanted observations in the use of the name. Certainly seems as if I’ve was used various ways

One of My Aunts was called Frances but was always known as Cissie.
Carol

My grandfather’s sister was Susan but known as Cissie.
I remember a neighbour too - Auntie Cissie and just looked her up in 1939 register - she was Sarah. She had twin daughters who were referred to as the ‘twinnies’ if we were talking about them as a pair rather than their individual names. :)
-
Margaret Mary - grandmother/oldest child (1897) - unsure of the origin but there are a pair of matching souvenir glasses with Cis on the base and my grandfathers name on the other
Logic being he also called her Cis
-
Certainly seems as if it’s use has been quite popular.
Thanks all
