Title: Elizabeth Seston Missing person Clowne Derbyshire 1875
Post by: davidwgrobinson on Friday 16 July 21 09:39 BST (UK)
Hi,

I've had some great help on here before, I'm now looking for more.

I have a missing person Elizabeth Froggatt who married Joseph Seston

I have her up to 1875 with the birth and death of her daughter Constance Maud Seston in Clowne

I can't find her on the 1881 Census and I've checked the burial records for Clowne up to 1904

All her family lived in Clowne and she isn't on their census either.

In 1881 Joseph Seston was in Manchester with a new wife and 1 year old child.

To add to my mystery she has a daughter Minnie Seston born also in 1875 (Constance must have been born early) who I can't find any information about except the birth.  She also isn't in the Burial register in Clowne, she also isn't with her father in Manchester.

So any help tracking Elizabeth Froggatt born 1849 in Barlborough missing from 1875

and Minnie Seston born 1875 in Clowne.  (There is another Minnie Seston on Ancestry She is the Granddaughter of Elizabeth and married in 1912)

David

According to Free Reg  Minnie was baptised on 30 May 1875, Constance Maud was baptised privately  on  23 Dec, buried  29 Dec 1876.

Have you found the marriage for him and his new wife?

I haven't, I have the 1881 and 1891 Census with Lucy mentioned as wife and 2 new Children, also on Lucy's next marriage she is down as Lucy Seston.

Joseph also had a 3rd wife, which I'm sure I have the marriage for.  All of the above in Manchester

Constance Maud is 5 weeks when she's buried, I have the baptism and burial sheets for her, and the baptism for Minnie, nothing else for Minnie, no burial, no census, no marriage.

I'm only on Ancestry at the moment, I'm hoping if no one can help here, then I'll try one of the others at some point.

I can't see a marriage for Joseph and Lucy but there was a son John baptised in 1882 and his birth registration has mothers maiden name Stockton.

Yes John was born in1882 and is on the 1891 Census, but even though the older son Tom, born to Elizabeth in 1869, is on the 1881 Census with Joseph, Minnie isn't which makes me think that if Elizabeth was still alive then Minnie was with her.

A bit of a long shot but the names Joseph  Shenton and Lucy Stockton  appear on the same page of marriage register in Salford in March Q 1890.

From GRO Index.
Birth. Lucy Seston. Dec Q 1889. Salford.  Mmn Stockton

That Maureen is well worth a look as Gertrude Ann on the census would also match and married in Liverpool 15 minutes away from West Derby.

Not sure about Frederick so I'll look at that.   Changing Minnie and Gertrudes surname would have thrown me totally.  Gertrude was back to Seston on the marriage certificate.

This is the best lead so far.

Thanks for that Brentor Boy.   I'll add that to the Lucy pile for future reference.  From yours and Maureens post it would appear that the whole family moved towards Manchester / Liverpool.

Lucy is down as born in Clowne also, which is why I was edging towards her having married there too, or just taking the Seston name (both her and Joseph were down as widowed on future marriages.)

Bruno Frederick born 1979 to Elizabeth Froggatt Illegitimate.

Can I ask how you got to the Howell census, or how you got from Seston to Howell?

Yes thanks, I'm just onto the Census records now,  and Clowne is a local village so can check the Burial registers when were out of lockdown for burials.

I've been searching on and off for about 3 year I just couldn't work it out

I spent all the time searching for Elizabeth Seston / Froggatt, I didn't discover Minnie until yesterday (I think I missed her looking for the other  Minnie Seston in the tree, Serves me right)

I didn't get Frederick at all,    Many thanks once again.  I've picked up Elizabeth's Catholic Baptism record,  showing the correct parents,  to go with her CofE one,  hopefully I can get the marriage record as well, it helps they moved back to Derbyshire, it's easier for me.   I'm pretty sure of a death date now as well.

Many thanks again.
