Title: Medals
Post by: Norfolk Nan on Wednesday 25 August 21 11:57 BST (UK)
Hi

Is anyone able to identify these two medals from the ribbons please?  My best-guess is Crimea (pale blue with yellow edges) and New Zealand campaigns(dark blue with a narrow red centre stripe) from the 1850-60s but it's just a guess.

If I can pinpoint the medals I can put an age to the man wearing them.

Thank you.

Can't ID the medals yet but this looks to have been taken
1880's/90's & he doesn't look old enough to have served in the Crimea.
Added:
May even be Edwardian as the one looks to have an Edward V11 head.
These perhaps.
1 is Jubilee Medal 1897 & 2 the Coronation Medal 1902.
Although the ribbon looks the wrong colour I can tell I've seen medal ribbons
on sepia photos where the shading looks completely wrong.
Certainly the Coronation Medal is correct as I've just been looking at other
photos & it's identical.

That's great, thank you.  It helps narrow my search dates so thank you.

I can tell you he is a station Sergeant as he has 4 chevrons.
He looks 40-45.
As 1902 is the earliest it can be the timeframe would be 1855-65.

Thanks, Jim - is the photo you posted a stock photo or people you've identified?  Would you say the badges on the helmets are the same and if so, which police force?

It's a stock photo but the date & medals have been identified.
The helmet plate is too indistinct to identify.
