Title: 1920 Merthyr Tydfil addresses church st+ Baden terrace
Post by: brigidmac on Tuesday 21 September 21 11:04 BST (UK)
I'd like to know anything about 15 church street and 9 Baden terrace
These were addresses  given in my great grandfather s alien registration card in 1920.

What kind of houses are they who else lived there ?

(they may have been boarding houses as in 1917 he was living in Washington hotel porth. Glam.)

Have you checked the addresses on Google maps? Both houses are still standing.

They look like Victorian Terraces - presumably the structures would have been the same in 1920 as they are today. If you don’t think he was living with his own family, it is possible that he was boarding or renting a room. Post office directories may help you find residents names.

Thank you .i havent used google maps but will give it a go .
He didnt have any of his own family left in England apart from his birth daughter and no connections that i know of in Wales he was a lodger with a coalminer and family as a travelling salesman in the 1911 census in Pontypridd
So i assume he was doing same in Merthyr Tydfil

Link to give you an insight to area.

Baden Terrace is in the Penyard area. There is a map showing.

Church Street, I think is in the Penydarren area.

Thanks so much i found them both .

Looks like they could have been family houses taking in one or two boarders or lodgers

Thanks for map cas

He was admitted to an asylum hospital in oct 1920

Im going to look up 3 castle street as thats on his hospital record in 1924 but it might be the address of the hospital itself .

Google maps could become addictive

Ruskie are post office directories available on line too ?

I’ve heard mention of Post Office directories though am not sure if they exist for your years or location of interest. I’m sure someone will be able to point you in the right direction especially if you know the names of those he was lodging with.
