To my brother John Bennett, my niece Jane Phillips.
Thomas Rutt, Joseph Rutt, Nicholas Rutt, John Rutt, Catherine Rutt, Elizabeth Gottrell/Gottrall children of my late sister Millicent
Is this a PCC Will?
What year are we talking about, to check relationships

I agree with:
Bennett
Phillips
Then I have: Cottrell
Compare the C in Catherine.
I think the other surname is Knee, but I would like to compare to other examples of K and R.
Can you confirm the testator is William Bennett and supply the date please.

Wow!
Thank you for your quick replies. The Will is William Bennett's d 1857 Tormarton, Gloucestershire. The probate date is 23 September 1857.
Rutt Or Knee are the two names I had wondered about but I cannot find any marriage for Millicent Bennett to either a Knee or a Rutt and no births so that didn't help work out which one.
I am so grateful for the help.

It is: Knee
Here are examples of R and K taken from the next will in the register. Kitnocks is in Hampshire.
-
Also from the next will, examples of G and C.

Thank you so much.
I will have to keep working and see if I can tie in the names Knee and Cottrell.

Possible
William Knee (transcribed on ancestry as Kneww) married Milicent Bennett by banns 20 September 1789 at Marshfield.
Witness John Williams and Robert Cox.
Robert Cox signs several on the page.
Milicent signs as Bennitt.

Grittleton (ancestry image)
William and Milicent Knee
Joseph bap 25 July 1790
Catherine bap 25 Feb 1795
Nicholas Bennett bap 29 October 1797
John bap 1 June 1800
Elizabeth bap 2 January 1803
I could not find Thomas possibly the registers for Tormarton have not been transcribed online.
There is this entry
Nicholas son of William and Milicent was buried St Mary Tormarton 6 October 1795.
I expect Nicholas was baptized there as well, the first one.

William Knee 1761 buried 9 March 1845 age 84 St Mary Tormarton
He is on the 1841 census age 80 ag lab. not born in county --top of page 11 (ancestry) I cannot see that he is in the index, the village is just 11 pages so I scrolled through. William Hall age 17 the name below his is in the index.
ADDED
William Knee is with his daughter Elizabeth Cottrell in 1841 age transcribed as 20 instead of 80, his daughters family are on page 10
Milicent Knee 1763-1838 buried 19 February age 75 St Mary Magdeline Tormarton, abode Nettleton

Okay this was a puzzle.
Thomas Cottrell single married Elizabeth Hall WIDOW 6 June 1829 at Tormarton.
Daughter Emma is registered with mothers maiden name Hall, but Harriet 1840 is registered Chipping Sodbury with mothers maiden name Knee.
So Elizabeth Knee married ? Hall who died before 1829

Hi Amondg
Thank you so so much for all the work you have done for me on this line of my family. Way more than I expected when I posted the excerpt from the will. You have given me a lot of leads to follow and I am hugely grateful for your support.
Take care
