My 3x great grandmother Mary Bannister married James Landless in 1842 at St Bartholomews church Colne Lancashire.
I have not been able to find parents for her she was born in 1822 in Marsden which is now Nelson Lancashire.
can anyone help.
-
What is her fathers name & occupation on the marriage cert
EDIT
M/cert is online - father Thomas occ weaver
-
Marriage on Lancashire Online Parish Clerks website.
4 Dec. 1842 St. Bartholomew, Colne
James Landless full age, engineer, bachelor, Lob Lane
Mary Bannister (X) full age, spinster, Lob Lane, Marsden
Fathers William Landless, agent, Thomas Bannister, weaver
Witnesses John Landless, James Ellis. By banns.
Full age was 21.
What is the source for Mary being born in 1822 and in Marsden?
Have you found Mary on 1841 census before her marriage?
-
Source for age & birthplace is 1851 census - aged 29 b Marsden
1861 - aged 40 b Little Marsden
1871 aged 50 b Marsden
-
Thanks Carole. I was just about to answer my own question after finding her on census.
Estimated birth year from 1861 onwards was 1821 as she stated her ages on census returns as 40, 50, 60, 70 80 and 90. James' recorded ages were same as hers. Birthplaces for both Marsden or Little Marsden except 1911 Marsden Heights? transcribed on Family Search as Marsden Heigfith.
-
Could she be the Mary Bansston recorded aged 20 in Little Marsden Whalley in the 1841 census? She is a weaver living with the Berry family.
Someone has already suggested on Ancestry that she is Mary Bannister.
-
A Thomas Bannister married Jane Thompson on I June 1823 at Burnley could they be Mary’s parents but marrying after her birth? Thomas recorded as a weaver.
A Mary Bannister was baptised at the same church on 26 August 1821 daughter of Jane Bannister.
-
Marsden and Little Marsden and Marsden Heights the spelling on Ancestry is not correct, are now all part of Nelson Lancashire.
thanks for all the information
-
There is also a Rachel Bannister baptised 4 January 1824 in Little Marsden, parents Thomas and Jane.

my mystery as been solved, parents of Mary Bannister are.
Thomas Bannister and Mary Blackburn this comes from information found in a family members family tree.
-
Thomas Bannister a widower married Mary Blackburn in 1824 in Colne. Have you found your Mary’s baptism yet?
-
Oh well if that is the case better tell my distant cousin who's tree i got the information that Mary Blackburn is probably not Mary's mother.
Have no information on her baptism.
Well i think it is about time to give up on trying to find these few facts that i need to complete my tree, and call it a day.
-
You Mary could come from Thomas’ first marriage whenever that was.
-
that is the problem now to try and find a previous marriage for Thomas, so i am back to square one.
-
I now feel that we have two Thomas Bannisters because i found the following two marriages on Lan Opc.
Thomas married Jane Thompson at St Peters church Burnley on 1 jun 1823.
Thomas married Mary Blackburn at St Bartholomews Colne on 28 Dec 1823 on this it states he is a widower.
I have found a tree on Family search for a Thomas married to a Jane Thompson and they had 7 children the last one born in 1845 and mary is not mentioned as one of their children.
So i now believe that we have a family in the Burnley area and a separate family in the Colne area. which was Marsden in his time.
And as our family is more in the Colne /Nelson area i think the Colne one is most likely.
I have lived in Nelson all my life and majority of my family are this area
