Title: Catherine Hart
Post by: mags c on Wednesday 06 October 21 21:16 BST (UK)
Hi, Im trying to trace a Catherine Hart, I believe I have a copy of her birth certificate Born 6.4.1830 to John Hart and Mary Sullivan in Askeaton, Limerick. I think she married a John Preston and they had a son called Michael born about 1846. Michael moved to Scotland and married in 1871 to a Mary Flannigan, also from Ireland. Another member of Rootschat posted that they could trace a marriage for Catherine Hart to a Daniel Preston in Sligo.  Daniel is not a name that runs in my family. Anyone any ideas????

Have you downloaded Michael's 1871 marriage cert to confirm whether his father was John or Daniel?

SP has a death for a Michael Preston mmn Hart.  However - the death was in 1904 & Michael was only 46 so cannot be your Michael

So if he names his father as John - why are you pursuing the name Daniel?

Re Daniel: Ive been trying to track down a marriage certificate for Michaels parent, and as I said another member posted a marriage for a Daniel Preston and Catherine Hart in Sligo.  Nor can I trace birth certificate for Michael, who wa born in Ireland.  The death certificate on SP is my Michael, although I don't think he was 46 because that meant he would have been 13 when he got married.....The Scottish side Ive been able to trace pretty well, Its the Irish side Im stuck with x

Wonder whether they got his birth year instead of his age when he died.  Does his death cert also show his father as John?

Yes it does. Never thought about the mix up with his age. They had the wrong age for Mary (his wife) too when she died.

I think Michael was in the best position to know who his parents were so I would concentrate on John - not Daniel.

Thank you.  Can you recommend any Irish sites for investigating your family tree?

What you have is a baptism record - she may have been born on the same day.
