Title: Diary week ending 24th October
Post by: louisa maud on Monday 18 October 21 10:31 BST (UK)
I am  starting this  week, haven't  got  a  lot to say  but  I  like  to  hear  what  everyone  else  is  getting  up to

Seeing  a  friend  today before  she isolates  as she   starts  her  chemo soon and  has  pre  appointments,  will be  nice to  see her as  she  has  been isolating  for  so  long waiting for  something  to  happen,  I  will be  sitting in  her conservatory  with her  bifolds  open, so  i  will have  to wrap  up  warm, it is  chilly today,  least  I  can  do  before  she  starts  her therapy.

Hope  everyone  is  feeling  a  bit  chipper  today, take  care

Well, all organised to go to M/c  this morning to get the concessionary train travel pass ,and tickets .
Thought I had better double check how my friend was and that  there were no relatives from York there also as they have priority of course.
Son who is her main carer said one of the visiting carers has tested positive !
So tests etc and not a good time for them, phoned to cancel Hotel but have until 4 O’Clock Sunday to cancel without penalty fees.
However I think it too much for them to cope with just now and so it will be wait and see.
No sense getting the train pass if not travelling very soon,it lasts a year so a couple of wasted months possibly.
So took my decent clothes off, changed into jogging pants and sweater ,made a cuppa and flew to my  iPad for consolation!
Ah well, I have lots to do.
Son found a very very small strong and dangerously sharp stitch unpicker so I can have another go at my choked up machine , I have missed it .
It might very well need a repair but perhaps the shop which left Bury for Burnley can sort that otherwise I might treat myself to a new one .
I have the old hand machine converted to electric with a small motor attachment ,was giving it to grand daughter but might keep it although it does weigh a ton. An all metal Singer.

I like treating myself , ::)OH was a great treater but always jewellery because I once said that a new vacuum was not exactly a present for me ,the house yes, but not me .
He vacuumed but we would have ended up with round rooms as corners did not get done ,nothing moved etc.  ;D ;

Such a dull and gloomy day .
What ought I to expect at this time of year. !
Normally I would be checking what I
needed to buy for Christmas cake, puds, mincemeat etc.
Gone off rich dark cake somewhat .
Made a really  nice Dundee  cake last year which was lovely ,I like my mincemeat recipe too with orange zest and coriander and Cointreau .
But watching the sugar I won’t be eating many!
I used to make eight dozen!
OH was a great help in eating them ,took some to Grandma’s for the annual Boxing  day party ,there were twenty or so of us there .

Well must get on, hope all is well at my friend’s .

Grand daughter here at weekend.
Maybe news  of new baby too.
She can take back  with her a little present for Flash Harry.
All his toys that are still here and I can’t bear to get rid of them !
What a super little presence.
Cheerio. Hope everyone has some nice things happening now or in the near future ,keeps well or if  ill make good recoveries .
Viktoria.

What a busy life you manage, Viktoria! Sometimes you make me feel quite breathless. (Perhaps it's as Thora Hird is said to have said (odd sentence construction, sorry) "You don't stop doing things because you get old, you get old because you stop doing things"

Hope you enjoyed your visit to your friend LM.

What a shame that you've had to postpone your trip Viktoria, I hope you can soon rearrange it.

TY, love the Thora Hird wisdom!

It seems my Pilates class is on this week after all, it's next week when the half term break takes place. That works well for me, art class isn't on this week but will be next week so at least I'll have one class each week.
Dental checkup today, I never seem to get away without having something that needs doing these days so will be back there next week. Oh joy.  ::)

I think it is very much to do with the fact that I have not grown up yet!
Nor do I intend to.
They will have to put my toys in my coffin!
A Dolly’s tea set circa 1800’s No no no , not that old but bought second hand
with a tiny glass junket set ,from a junk shop during the war ( yeeees, that
again!)brought to where I was evacuated , for Christmas .
Seemingly FC met mum on the way from her walk up from the road between Shrewsbury and the tiny hamlet where I lived ,and asked her to deliver it.
Later I could see the boxes were shirt boxes decorated with maroon sticky paper with my name in pale blue cut out letters. The junket set box dark blue with my name in pink .
I have both sets still ,that would be eighty years ago.
I haven’t played with them for a few weeks!

I can be a bit lazy re mundane day in day out chores but do a big clear out and yes I am up for it ,trouble is—- it all goes back  :-[

Lucky to have a good memory,no idea where my specs are but ask me what I was wearing at such and such an occasion etc fifty years ago ,that is no problem , I think I ought to be getting worried!

I need to have a stronger sense of throwawayitus ,very poorly developed mine!
I want my children to say “Aaaw, she left everything all organised “ instead it will be “ What the heck are these “ holding up a little glass bottle ,someone will identify them as their  and the other two children’s milk teeth plus  the puppies’ which my daughter saved and put them all together .
If they are ever used inDNA tests there will be a Westie and a Scottie in our family tree!
Well better get in and pretend I am busy ,daughter phones this evening for a
couple of hours ,so catch up on news re new baby Flash Harry etc.
Cheerio , look after yourselves
 Viktoria.

Hopefully Viktoria  you  can  get  your trip  fairly  soon..

A  friend  who spent 2  nights away from  8th   was  pinged on  17th, she  tested and she is  positive, her  husband  is clear, my daughter's  dog  sitter also  had covid,  I was in his  company  for  10 minutes over a  week ago  but  I  tested myself this  morning before  visiting  my  friend and  I am  ok, so  it  is around and about us,  I think  a  lot  of  people  are  not wearing  masks  when  out

My  friend  who  is  due  for  chemo  is  very  upbeat , gets  very  tired  so my  visit wasn't very  long , she  sat  in  her  lounge and  me  in the conservatory with  the  doors open, I  wore a  warm coat  and  made  her laugh as  I  had taken a  hot  water bottle  if  I  was  cold, didn't  need it  except  my feet were cold, small price  to  pay ,

Dentist, I  have  a  permanent  eye  tooth filling that  keeps falling  out, in  fact  twice  I  have  had  it filled  free of charge, she is reluctant to take  it  out as  it  is  a  very  deep root,  so  I  suppose  I  will have to return every  few  weeks for  the  filling to be replaced, unfortunately  it  is  in the  front

Take  care  everyone

Oh Gosh L M!
Just shows you doesn’t it.
I have been out and about a bit ,on buses and the train to my daughter’s .
Must start testing again ,I have a full pack of tests.
I wonder if people thought the masks protected them ( know it is for the protection of others) they would wear them more.
I wear mine .
Many are getting careless.
Others do not care at all, and by now  it  ought to be subsiding , many doubly vaccinated people and even booster treated people are getting milder symptoms ,but they are still infectious .
I wonder if it is mutating again .
Imagine my friend’s carers ,from patient to patient .
Despite full protective clothing they are not safe really nor are their patients .
Hope everyone keeps well.

What a pain in the tooth LM.!
Oh teeth, hope yours settles down.

Roobarb nice to hear you are able to get to some of your classes, how is your sense of taste now?Better I hope.
Viktoria.

Dentists …… never seen one since pre covid . I think I posted on here a while ago saying my appt had been moved. Well it’s been moved again from this week to a date in November. Last time it was because the dentist was on a training course. This time it’s because he’s leaving! The practice has 11 dentists apparently. I said I was happy to see anyone who was a dentist. They said that as receptionists they are required to only allocate you to YOUR dentist ‘ as you will have built up a rapport with them ‘ ! Well if that were accurate fair enough, but I’ve only seen the guy who’s leaving twice and on both occasions, he asked me did I not want to have my gap replaced with a tooth. I told him on both times, no it was fine thank you. It doesn’t bother me and isn’t that visible.
Who knows what the dentist I have now been allocated will be like - assuming this appt doesn’t also get cancelled.
Title: Re: Diary week ending 24th October
Post by: Roobarb on Monday 18 October 21 22:31 BST (UK)
That's shocking Candleflame, perhaps they need a reminder that the dentist is there to look after your oral health, not to form a rapport. Sounds like a load of claptrap to me!

Viktoria, my sense of taste is slowly improving, I can taste spicy foods and things like vinegar crisps! I still can't get the depth of flavour as I used to and subtle flavours are still mostly lost on me. I sometimes practice my own style of mindfulness when eating, I ask myself if I can taste what I'm eating and really concentrate on it. I'm hoping it helps. Thanks for asking.  :)

Well thanks to you also, the Diary   has been very helpful to many people.
A point of contact about not very much at all on my part sometimes ,that is why I wander off topic but others’ news has been most interesting .
You were so careful from the start and it seemed so unfair that after all your efforts you should get Covid .

Nice to hear things are improved and still improving albeit slowly.
Daughter phoned this evening as usual .
Flash  Harry has commandeered a baby blanket I knitted for his Daddy some 30 years ago.Helping Mummy to sort out for the new baby .
He said he will need a “ BoBo “blanket when the baby comes!
Moss  stitch with double wool ,white and very pale yellow,a deep fringe all round .
My eldest son used to pluck fluff from woolies etc ,rub them on his nose whilst thumb sucking as he went to sleep.
He called a favourite his BoBo blanket .
BoBo meaning “ go to boboes” “ ie “go to sleep .”
Boboes  are nicer than sleep.

There is another blanket ,pale eau de nil and white ,the same but he wanted the yellow one .
He has a spider, plastic ,which he uses to scare  the grown ups  .
The lads at the franchise had  it  on cotton going up and down , he was not sure whether to be delighted that it had - seemingly-  become real or scared to death.
No name for the baby girl yet .
F.H. Has decided he is too big to  have  showers  ., they have a shower but no big bath tub .
Mum is getting stuff out to be familiar ,Moses basket has been out a week or two.New baby bath in bathroom so FH decided he would rather be bathed in that. He used to love it when they came here at weekends as my bath is big enough for me to drown in!
It is no matter , anything to make him feel welcoming to the baby.
He is looking forward to it .
Sad though that she won’t be able It  to ride his bike for a while as he has generously said she can have turns .
Ah well ,it will all work out.
As long as he doesn’t’t want her to go back!

I have to face my dentist as I went to another for a second opinion really about a £6,500 plan for  my teeth!
They did a couple of fillings but my oh my ,what a difference .
Yes there was a price difference but you can see why.
I thought the new one - as they did NHS dentistry - might refer me to the Dental Hospital , I had a lot of work done there ,in fact all the work was the final, practical exam for a student from Manchester  Uni. It was all photographed as it was for his practical exam.
That lasted years and only now needs replacing .
Not sure if a private Dentist would refer me.
However the new one ,although I asked to be a NHS patient ,said they had no vacancies .
It was all a mix up but the work is not good so I have to fess up when I go back to the expensive one.
So many are in big groups like “ Smile Line Dentistry Group “ etc very good for whitening, veneers etc etc , but not what I need.

Well off to bed ,to finish a rather poor book, but don’t like not finishing a book.
Hope everyone keeps well, if already  ill speedy recoveries .
Goodnight.
Viktoria.

Not much to report of late but I and 6 others in my family are of to York for 3 days on Wednesday so looking forward to that.

Seems incredible that the twins (born 6 weeks early) will be 1yr old on 1st December.   First time I ever saw them end of January was through their lounge window!   This year seems to have flown by for me - seems like just a few months since I first saw the girls but it was 9 months.

Posted the odd photo now and then but thought you might like to see another.   They were taken to the seaside at the weekend where they each had some of mummy and daddy's icecream.   I attach a photo of them sitting on a wall (and in case you start wondering, mummy and daddy were behind them making sure they didn't fall).

Daunting to hear how rife this pandemic is - will certainly be wearing mask at all times in York.

Continue to stay safe everyone.

Annette

Annette- What lovely pics of your twins, they look very Bonny… I’ll bet they loved the ice cream too!
Hope you enjoy your trip to York, a wonderful city with so much to see and do.

Viktoria - my goodness what expense for dentistry… quite eye watering sums!
The vision of FH in a baby bath made me laugh… as you say anything but wanting the baby to return! I’m sure he’ll be enthralled when she arrives.
As always your tales are always amusing and your memory is fantastic…. I had a smile about you still being a kid.. it’s what keeps us going not thinking about your age.. keep the brain active for as long as possible I say..

Candleflame - I can’t believe how your dentists are treating you quite shameful… although we had to wait some considerable time to finally get our check ups our dentist has twice fitted us in when we had emergencies thankfully!

LM - sorry to hear your friend tested positive… I quite agree with you about people not wearing face coverings inside there seem to be less and less which is probably why the numbers are up to nearly 50.000 ! Can’t be too careful.
I hope your friend doesn’t suffer to much from her chemo treatment. I’m sure she really appreciated your visit… hot water bottle and all 😂😂.

Roobarb- glad to hear you’ve got one class this week and another the next!
It must take all your powers of memory to taste your food, hope it improves … glass of 🥂 yet or not?

TY - love the Thora Hird quote… how true!

A new week stated with us having our boosters this morning… sleepless night tonight hence being on here… headache and the snuffles…  hope I don’t feel any worse in the morning as it’s OH’ birthday 😩😩, we’d not planned anything as weather looks like rain 🌧 so have to see..

Well my friend who broke her shoulder earlier this year is going in to have a complete new shoulder as the first operation (6 months ago) hasn’t worked as the bolts and plate have slipped, bone not healed as it should and her range of movement is dreadful… don’t envy her having to go through it all again!

My other friend who fell over in the garage 6 months ago too, is still suffering it’s caused her so many problems that I don’t think they know what to do with her and she’s had every test under the sun.. she’s a very petite person and I think it’s just shunted everything all over the place giving her pelvic issues and worse…

Our friend whose been going through chemo for the last 6 months is going through hell and back… ontop of everything he has a wisdom tooth that is continuing to be infected but they can’t give him anaesthetic to remove it because of the chemo! So he’s constantly in and out  of hospital with that… currently in after temp rising to 40! Ambulance arrived in 15 minutes so that was fantastic… just keeping fingers crossed they can sort it for him… he has remained remarkably chipper throughout all this… his poor wife’s exhausted…

Well must get some shut eye or will be like chewed string in the morning! Looking forward to chatting to our son and wonder whether they’ve still got the possums in the roof!

Keep safe and healthy all
Caroline

Thanks for the kind messages.  Last night was back to normal and I had no problem catching the bus.
I feel so tired this morning.  There was another traffic jam and the first bus was running late again.  Again standing room only for some people but I got a seat. A lady at the bus stop was getting stressed out as she had a train to catch.
It's a grey, rainy day, but this tends to be the best weather for sleeping so I don't mind that its so dismal.  Will be home soon.

That's good that you can spend time with your friend, before her treatment Louisa Maud.  I am sure your support will be a tonic to help her cope better with what is coming up.  I hope all goes smoothly for her.
I can't believe how fast the twins are growing   Annette!    Sorry to read about the recent vertigo Roobarb, what a time you have gone through - first covid, now this.  Hope you are feeling better.
Congratulations on the win Viktoria and sorry to hear that you couldn't get the shingles jab.
I haven't quite caught up with everyone's news but send everyone best wishes on here.

Oh what a wonderful picture, those tiny lives with all the worries about their prematurity.
Really good to see them,thanks.

I feel a real woos !The things others are going through !
And yes, we are far from out of it yet ,not by any means .
I relaxed a little but feel things ought to be more cut and dried and tighter .
The trouble is I think, that people were really fed up and would have kicked over the traces anyway had there not been an easing of restrictions.

Sad to hear of so many with serious health problems .
My dentistry problems and costs are for extensive treatment ,ie a complete set of crowns on my bottom incisors .But not as important as people with Cancer and bad conditions from falls.
Damaged years ago in an accident ,at school.
The Dentist wants to do a full set of crowns ,not individual ones but my argument is ,if one fails then the whole crown will have to be removed to sort out the failed one.
Perhaps implants would be better ,I need to talk to him don’t I!
I begrudge the money, think how it would help my lovely grandchildren etc.
Not good value if I die in the next fifty years!

I am philosophical about my cancelled visit, can’t be helped and their safety is the most important.
My friend’s wonderful son has also hurt his back whilst attending to his mother.

Well not eaten yet, forgot a tablet that has to be taken at least half an hour before food, I usually give it an hour .
Ooops! Phone ,so Bye Bye !
Viktoria.

What  a  beautifully picture  of the  twins,  as  you  might  recall   I  am  a  twin, if  they  were local to  me  I  would  most  probably  have  spoken  to their  mother, can't  resit it

Hopefully  Rtl  the  bus  situation  will calm  down  a  bit, I  think  buses  seem to be back  to normal except locally to  me  where there are so  many  roads  having diversions due  to gas  or  huge  work being  done  on the roads  to the  port, been  a  long  time.

Viktoria, your  new  granddaughter  will be  a  Scorpio, lovely  people  !!!,.  Hope  all  goes  well when the  time  comes

Sun  out after  a  dull start, washing  to go  out methinks

Oh yes! Mum and Dad are both May as is Flash Harry and I am too.
OH was Sagittarius ,Nov 26 th- now he was something else!
Daughter is on the cusp, 22 Nov .
Number one son 12 June t’other 16 April .

Still no name , I try not to suggested ,did not really like F,H’s at first but not my baby and can remember my fierce M in L’s scorn at my choice for our first baby ,quite upset me but it meant a lot as good associations with people of that name.He has lived up to the good things they had in their  characters.
I like FH’s now because it is HIM of course.
So whatever the little girl is named it will grow on me  and  if it doesn’t well I shall go  and boil my head as I have no right to any opinion about it.
You see Gemini ,two, people in one!

Candleflame, I'm not happy with dentists, either.
As a child I developed a good technique with dentists, that I last threatened one with shortly before Covid took off.
When I was a child, and the dreadful (School clinic) dentist woman started to do something that really HURT - I closed my jaws hard on her fingers. It stopped her, and she shouted at me for biting her. I said I didn't know what she was doing, (she'd suddenly moved from one part of my mouth to another) but it hurt, and IF I'd known what she was doing, and why, I wouldn't have tried to stop her in order to tell her she was hurting me (I'm damn sure she knew she was hurting, and didn't care )
From time to time I've said to various dentists that I need to know exactly what they are doing, and why, and sometimes I must admit I've said "And I'll bite down if you don't, until you explain".
And a couple of years ago, I gently but firmly closed my jaws on the dentist's fingers, for that very reason.
It worked.
He has been very careful to explain exactly what, and where, and why, he's doing things.
(Actually I had one appointment for a damaged filling earlier this year, and another one coming up, so there's not been any problem getting treatment, even though it costs a fortune - no NHS dentist accessible.)

Lovely pic of the twins Annette. 😊 You might not see this before you go to York but it does have a relatively low infection rate, which you might find reassuring. Not suggesting that you ditch the mask of course! Hope you have a lovely time, it's a beautiful city.

Pleased to hear your journey was easier RTL, hope things continue in that vein.

TY, no wonder you need a new filling, chomping on all those fingers.  ;D ;D ;D

Caroline, I hope you managed to get through today after being awake at 4am   :o :o
I do hope things improve for your friends, they're having a rotten time of it.
Re the wine, I've been practicing with those little 187ml bottles (not opening a big one for it to go to waste!). The first time I tried it tasted of nothing and most of it went down the sink. Since then I've tried a couple of others and had some flavour although not the full experience. When I went for a walk with my friend the week before last we went for something to eat, some of which I could taste, and a glass of wine. I got some flavour, not particularly strong. This week I tried a Sauvignon Blanc, I don't know if it was the type of wine or if my taste is improving but I did get more from it.

Viktoria, thanks for the laughs  ;D

Well, we've been busy heaving all the heavy garden furniture into their winter storage homes.... nowhere now to sit down in the garden, except the comparatively lightweight metal, glass-topped table and a couple of chairs, that, after hosing down and drying out will then move to nest in the conservatory, for winter breakfasts, sun permitting, until spring next year.
-Gulp! That means it's really autumn.
Hoping to get out a "Fleece up" the vulnerable plants in the next day or so.
Off for a hot bath now. Radox here I come!

Last night I had my first night out at the pub since February 2020.  And I could even taste the wine.   :) I was being careful not to overdo it but my body seemed to think otherwise, I had a thumping headache this morning. I guess it's because I'm such a cheap date these days. I really enjoyed the night though, felt like being back in the real world. It's just lucky that there was no art class today.  :D

Great to hear you had a good night out Roobarb…even if you paid for it today 😂😂… not sure what your art might have been like!

OH mowed our lawns today whilst it was dry and he finally managed to use the strimmer I bought him for his birthday… he came indoors with a smile on his face so it obviously does the job!

My friends shoulder operation went well today so hopefully she’ll get more mobility now it’s all new!

Not long now Viktoria until your latest gt grandchild arrives all exciting times for you and the family… hope you get to see them before too long.
My OH’s nephews wife is expecting their third child in November… another girl so that’ll make three girls for them… they live in Singapore so we’re not likely to see them for some time!

My daughter and the boys are due up for a couple of days this coming week but youngest ones had to go for a PCR test as he’s not been too good last couple of days and had a positive lateral flow test… daughter took PCR too just waiting for results … eldest and her hubbie tested negative so will have to see result before any decisions are made… good job they didn’t book anywhere to go away!

Spoke to my son in Brisbane this week and they’ve had quite a lot of rain and discovered part of their property flooded… went away next day but something to watch where they decide to rebuild the house… suggested he put it on stilts… not sure he was very happy with that comment!

Recovered ok from our booster jabs… just had one day of feeling like a wet lettuce .. wonder how others have found it…

Well got several events to look forward to in the next month so hope everyone’s going to be sensible and either get their jabs, make sure they wear face coverings so we don’t all go back to restrictions of some sort…
Daughter & I are going to County Living Christmas fair in Islington, friend and I going to Good Food show at NEC and we’re having a small Christmas Fayre in the village to raise money for Afghan refugee families in Northamptonshire…..
oh and cheese and wine evening to raise funds for our over 70’s Christmas hampers in the village…

Well hope everyone is safe but still able to have some enjoyment after all these months…

Take care

Caroline

For  some  peculiar  reason  that  I  can't  fathom  out bazaars  are  now  being  called  fayres, what  happened  to the  good old fashioned Christmas Bazaar,  even 2  local  churches  have fayres even though one is  last Saturday in November

LM - I think they mean pretty much the same thing….

It just sounds nice to use old fashioned terminology such as Fayre as opposed to Bazzar….
The latter always reminds me of living in the Middle East and the bazaars / souks so I guess personally it doesn’t conjure up what I think of as a Christmas Fayre/Fair…

I  normally get  the  job  of posters, I  have  had  to change them, there  is  a  shortage  of logo's for fayres, plenty for bazaars.

Roobarb so glad you had a lovely time at the pub.

LM is the terminology of fayre /fair/ bazaar anything to do with where we are in the country? I’m from and in the North East and we’d always call it a fayre / fair and never a bazaar. There don’t seem to be many publicised this year which I presume might be due to the effects of covid. Back in the day, some fairs here would also be called ‘ sale of work’ though that tended to be things like handicrafts and cakes etc.

Christmas  bazaar would  suit  me  for  a  church bazaar

I think "Bazaar" was one of those terms used a lot in the late 19th / early 20th C, especially where people actually made the things offered for sale, usually for charitable causes - but I suspect so many spelling errors were made with the word on posters  - I've seen "Bazzar", Bazzaar", as well as "Bazaar" and even - appropriately "Bizzare" and "Bizarre" - that it was easier to use "Fair" or "Fayre".

TY - I think you could possibly be right with so many bizarre ways of spelling it 😂😂😂
We’re just going to stick with Fayre for ours. ....
Most of what we’re selling is all home produced whether it’s jams, chutneys, chocolates, Christmas decorations, pottery, paintings .... I could go on .. for a small village of less than 250 people we have an extraordinary amount of talent.
It’s the making, taking part and raising money that really counts.

Back home from York just before 5pm with 2 coffee breaks en route.

Had a lovely time and my sister and I were able to celebrate our consecutive birthdays with our cousins.   Arrived around 3pm on Wednesday but we were all feeling a bit weary so just unpacked, rested for a while until dinner at 7pm.   Thursday we drove to nearby park and ride and headed into York.  Spent the morning at Shambles and had a 2.30 booking to the Jorvik Viking Centre which was very interesting.   This was followed by a visit to Bettys for drinks and cake.   Had to queue to get in there but was worth it (I visited the main one in Harrogate some years ago now).   It was a beautiful sunny day BUT extremely windy and cold which seemed to go right through you so a swift visit by some into Primark for cheap hats and gloves.   We did a lot of walking and I felt particularly weary the next day when York Minster was visited (I had been before).   Again, another bitterly cold day with glorious sunshine.

All too soon it was Saturday and time to leave.   I'd travelled up with my sister and b-in-law who were now off to Halifax for a wedding tomorrow so came back with my cousin and his wife.   My cousin (from Dorset) and her husband were shooting off to Doncaster to visit one of his cousins and then heading for an overnight stay at Leicester before heading back to Dorset tomorrow.

So next week will be seeing nephew and niece and their respective families for some belated birthday celebrations.

The twins go to a local baby and toddler playgroup each week and this weeks theme was Halloween.   My niece had these tops done for them (Incy and Wincy) and they looked adorable.   My niece regularly sings Incy Wincy Spider to them and they were so excited when it was sung by the playgroup.   Thought you'd like to see them in their outfits.

What a shame about your grandson testing positive Caroline, Covid has scuppered so many plans. Hope he's not suffering too much and you can see him before too long. My booster isn't due for another month yet but I'll definitely be making an appointment as soon as I'm invited.

Re the bazaar thing, I'm like Caroline in that it makes me think of the souks. Fayre is much more evocative of Charles Dickens type Christmases with rosy cheeked children and mulled wine!
I seem to remember my grandmother referring to the bazaar when I was a child, I think she was talking about Woolworths. Or maybe M&S - was that the original penny bazaar.
Anyway, a rose by any other name ......  🌹  :)

I see that the Tesco website is down and has been for some hours. My order is due tomorrow so thank goodness I made the major changes yesterday. Was going to do some tweaks but it doesn't matter if I don't get chance. Unlike some of the people who are panicking online, one asking if they will get the bunch of bananas delivered tomorrow, the sole item in their order.  ;D ;D

Added: Pleased to hear you had a good time Annette. Another lovely pic of the twins but as an arachnophobic I had to quickly look away.  :o

Such lovely pics of the twins Annette, they’re so sweet…
Sounds like your trip to York was enjoyable despite the biting wind. It’s such a wonderful place to visit… we went many years ago when our children were younger so 35yrs + I should think.. the Jorvik hadn’t been up and running for too long and our two were intrigued with the smells and sounds! Wonder if that’s still the case…

That’s Roobarb for your commiserations… they’re still waiting to hear the PCR results….

I’ve had trouble with Tesco’s site too today as I wanted to book a slot for next week… I should think it’s causing utter chaos!
Wasn’t it M&S who started off as a penny bazzar….

Well almost finished knitting a very simple teddy for new baby .
I will do a pink dress etc,
Did one for FH.
Was looking at photos as I dusted the other day ,a frame with multi places for photographs in one big frame.
One of FH with his teddy.

Well I am not going to Shropshire ,not heard from friend’s son re Covid testing results but will phone tomorrow ,after cancelling the hotel.
I think it best I don’t  go.
Daughter trying to organise Christmas,we would like us all to be together .
The way things are going that might not be possible .
I feel it would be wrong to travel to my daughter’s on a train.
A young fairly recently delivered mum might be very vulnerable.
Daughter will drive up I know but five hours in the depths of winter !
We will just have to wait and see.

Nice to read all the news, but so sorry some are having a tough time .        We   have all been careful  yet take Roobarb as example , so careful but still became ill. That really flabbergasted me!

Well I look as if I have visited the nit Nurse !
The hairdresser really scalped me, it is a nice cut but shorter than I wanted .
Ah well, next visit in late November but I can see it not needing to be done again so soon.

Waiting at the bus stop for a bus which was due but in fact was ten mins late.A group of young teenagers came to the stop.
The pavement is a bit narrow at that point and a big  waste bin is there also .
Well these kids were all over the place, so rude to passers by - Ramsbottom is busy on Saturdays - they blocked the pavement and one lad messing about, not looking bumped into a passing child who was pushed off the edge of the pavement .
The small boy’s father remonstrated ,the offender did not apologise but at least did not answer back but the whole group sniggered and laughed when the family had passed by.
Whatever is happening to some children!
One person on the bus made a comment , the group wanted “Child Day Savers” ,OK they were young enough, but boy oh boy—— !the way the girls were dressed. ,not children in that way.
One old lady- not me!- Said they were “ asking for trouble” ::)
Shorts so short and tops so low.

Oh dear I must be getting old or something .
Well time for bed ,Tesco delivery tomorrow so first job in the morning is  the   fridge  washed out etc,
So Goodnight and take care.
Viktoria.

It seems to me Viktoria that youngsters seem to be running amok, I spoke to a shop keeper at our top shops, there is a group of about 14/15 year olds who seem to be terrorising shop keepers locally, one Asian  newsagent is thinking of selling up it is so bad, one very strong shopkeeper seems to be trying to get to grips with it, she has CCTV footage showing one lads face, the rest of the yobs were  balaclavered up, this all seems to happen after 2pm , wonder if it is when they come out of school as times are staggered, police don't seem to think there is a problem. It really makes me wonder to be honest, but not all youngsters are like it, no respect.

They pass the gable wall of my house along an unadopted lane.
Can’t leave anything alone!
I have to make sure any washing of a personal nature is not still on the line, nighties ,underslips ,undies etc ,the comments!
The girls’ language as bad as the boys’.
If no washing the language is still dreadful and no shame about saying  loudly and openly what they get up to!
I try not to be outside..
The Primary school children are very naughty about messing with other peoples’ property.
I dream of a big ,loud , but harmless dog jumping over the fence ,but there is a not busy, but nevertheless a road where few cars do go along it at the end of the lane .
Could be an accident if the children scattered .
They have no healthy respect for anyone it seems ,not parents, school, head teacher, Police ,so there is no discipline or control .

They are brought up to believe they are important.
Self confidence is good but not the levels of arrogance many display.
We won’t  change  it I am afraid.
Not all are like that but many are ,sadly.
So I have to bring in off the line before 3-15 my black lace stuff!
Likewise my winter coms and flannelette  nighties.
 Honestly!
Viktoria.

My Tesco delivery driver phoned to ask if she could come early, I was happy with that even though it was almost an hour before my delivery slot! As a result of the chaos caused by the website being down she has very few deliveries today and they've told her she can have the afternoon off.  All of the pickers have been sent home too as they have nothing to do. What mayhem!

Viktoria, it's a good drying day today for you to be flaunting your smalls on the washing line.  ;D

It's a public holiday today, Monday, being Labour Day NZ and some parts of the country will be making the most of a long weekend though it's well known to be fickle weather being Spring and the full range of conditions, warmish and a bit damp with a peek of sun here and we seem to have lost the strong winds.
#1 sis was born during a storm, celebrated her birthday yesterday albeit fairly quietly, she and #3 sis same as me within the Auckland boundary but different parts. # 2 sis has been 35 years in Brisbane, had booked to visit us all from this coming week for a month but has had to cancel, believes she will get her payment back OK … took some time to get funds back for her cancelled India trip Easter 2020. Have caught up on family chats with all three sisters over the last couple of days, also cancelled our accommodation booked for end of month in Taupo and money refunded. It's an annual event and we booked the same services house as last year and paid in advance, hopefully through welfare another family will be happy to find it vacant as much more affordable than a motel. Also have an AGM next weekend that is now beyond travel for most and will now be an online meet.

A new traffic light system to be introduced once vaccination rates reach the required 90% double jabs for each District Health Board, Auckland DHBs and some there for 1st dose now and nudging 2nd but others a way from catching up, will come with different isolation requirements as well with managed isolation facilites having been consistently the norm and gradually moving now to more being allowed to isolate at home instead of MIQ. Infection rate quite widely distributed across the Auckland region and a smaller number beyond, although have worryingly spiked, still more or less as expected in community, households etc now that it's here. Plenty of opinion being expressed in all directions of course from those with their degrees of online 'knowledge'. Our main newspaper usually shuts down comments quite quickly on their facebook page with a flood of response as soon as an article appears and particularly if it is misinformation but it is also causing some angry division at times with debate. I try to keep up with news but moderate time to it as much as possible and don't interact, enough discussing with husband and the diary here.
Senior school allowed back in Auckland region but some are choosing to wait a little longer I believe. Northland started term just a couple of days late, calf day at granddaughter's school on Thursday, a rural school tradition, which we've been to last few years but it was a restrained affair this year. Some of the crafts all pupils participate in were done at home and not in the classroom.

Fairly ordinary sort of week disappeared as fast as ever. Did have a bit of commotion outside early Monday evening with the resident birds having a go at what sounded a bit like the regular rosellas and  that doesn't usually happen, turned out it was a blue budgie being chased and it landed high in one of our trees when I appeared. I had read on one of our neighbourhood community pages a few days earlier that a young lady had lost 2, between us we managed to contact her quickly and she soon turned up and by my photo said it was one of hers, however in the meantime after taking a breather it took off again. She was surprised it had got so far over several streets with clipped wings apparently, not really so far as the crow/budgie flies though. Apologised for getting hopes up, she was concerned with that female one being out in wild weather but knowing it was still OK and the male probably gone further afield hoping that they would be spotted again. We've only ever had 2 caged birds ourselves, both escapees that I've managed to capture and allowed to fly around out of the cage but indoors occasionally. The first a lovely canary we had for a few years and never claimed, towards the end he had been a bit poorly and unfortunately went out the way it came in with house wide open at the time and cage disturbed. Then a couple of decades ago came across a yellow budgie in the botanic gardens on my way to work, it was feeding in the grass but I was concerned for its survival in wild, again not claimed but lived with us for years as well. I've kept our cages for such things or to nurse a small injured bird or animal but would sooner the birds be free outdoors, unfortunately some bred in capture do get attacked when free though.

On the bird theme, highlight was a baby grey warbler just out of nest being attended to by parents in full view for us and happy to note that it survived the night and relocated a few times over next day, worry being neighbourhood cats about. They're such tiny birds and often I hear them without seeing as they flit quickly in canopy of trees.

Lotto ticket wasn't any good this week, thanked lady who sold me last one when I cashed it in, then noticed she was also the store supervisor so decided to follow up on my phone call re the ginger loaf previous week being off putting, daughter had agreed it was extra spicy like chilli, anyway said no other calls but offered refund so an acceptable result and said she would investigate further.

Delightful twins in their bespoke tops,Annette. Trick and treaters coming this next week more unlikely than usual for us I think ...
