so there were!

this is the second one.

So the husband of Diana Joy must be the younger one. Which explains the un-expected birth date in reply #19

As shown above, When Hubert William MALTBY died in 1956, the informant was Mabel Alice VANE-THOMAS, no relation
She was in fact his common law wife.

The record shows 2 children to this couple, Hubert William b. 1922 (known as Hugh) and Raymond b. 1929.

It looks like Mabel Alice had been previously partnered with Walter VANE-THOMAS.
In 1913 on the Electoral roll she is surnamed EVANS and address is Le Geyt Street Windsor, HD. Also in Le Geyt Street Windsor, Charles James EVANS a carpenter.

Another 1913 enrolment shows Mabel VANE-THOMAS at Le Geyt Street Windsor with Walter VANE-THOMAS , a clerk.

In 1915 Mabel VANE-THOMAS remains at Le Geyt Street Windsor (HD) and Walter VANE-THOMAS is at care C J EVANS, Newmarket Rd Windsor.

In 1925 Mabel Alice VANE-THOMAS address is H. W. MALTBY’s Campbell Tce, Alderley (HD).
Walter not sighted.

A confusing birth registration   ::)

Charles Henry Walter MALTBY
Date 14/02/1915

Mother Mabel Alice EVANS
Father Walter Edward Adam VANE-THOMAS

Walter VANE -THOMAS died shortly after joining the WW1 forces.

He joined in July 1918 in QLD and died of infection in November 1918 in Abbassia

He lists his NOK as Mabel but shows her at a different address from him.
Hers is Campbell Terrace (as shown above in 1925 with MALTBY)

Yes, this is correct.

The 1901 English census shows Mabel A EVANS and her brother Charles J EVANS (plus other siblings) living with their parents Charles R. and Harriet C., in Portsmouth.
All born Portsmouth.

Charles J EVANS is a carpenter, as is  Charles James EVANS on the QLD E Roll with Mabel in 1913 (see above)so she is with her brother.

I need to make a correction here.

The Mabel living with Charles James EVANS in 1913 was his wife, not his sister.

Quite a lot to sort through here. Have you heard of Mrs LUTTIN yet?...before I post information?
Title: Re: Janet Campbell Maltby born Taylor
Post by: sparrett on Sunday 07 November 21 07:07 GMT (UK)
by 1919 Janet Campbell MALTBY had an address apart from Hubert MALTBY.
At Blackstone, Bundamba.

Her previous address which was still on the 1919 roll along with the above one, was
First Avenue, Wilston.  No others of the surname with her.

So it looks as if there was a disruption to 2 marriages here.

This notice is of interest .W VANE THOMAS will not be responsible etc.

https://trove.nla.gov.au/newspaper/article/176210016

Not sure if this refers to his wife or not.  ::)

Sue

PS
ADDING
After his death, his wife placed In Memoriam notices in the papers expressing love and regret etc. for her deceased husband Walter VANE -THOMAS for number of years.
There were some form the EVANS family too.

Does Mrs Luttin refer to a letter in Hubert William Maltby's WW1 service record No 2423.

Yes for mention in WW1 AIF enlistment or Hubert.  I am not seeing  this birth on BDM.

It is possible that Mrs LUTTIN's daughter is not also a LUTTIN/LUTTON but another family name.
