Well done LM for starting us off again….
It’s unbelievable that we’re shortly into December… the year has gone like a flash not sure what I’ve got to show for it this year!

Hope your bazaar was successful and you raised good money LM.

This week has started really cold… heavy frost which has hung around most of the day… I’ve put numerous layers on and feel a bit like Mitchelin man! Balmy 11C tomorrow supposedly… T shirt sorts and flip flops ( thongs for those down under readers 😂)….

This coming Saturday is our Christmas Fayre and now things are looking much more difficult….
Face coverings for everyone and I’m considering asking all stall holders and helpers to do a lateral flow test… am I being over the top… hard to tell..I just hope we get people in as we have all gone to a great deal of effort and raising money is so vital these days for all causes… so keep your fingers crossed for us folks.

My heart goes out to all those without electricity because of the storms… apart from the 60+ people who are snowed in at a pub somewhere up north!
Captive audience, one way for the pub to make money 😀. Although they did say an ambulance had got through to deal with a medical issue… so I’m wondering how snowed in they are…. Maybe just don’t want to go home!

Look forward to reading everyone’s entries..
Take care, stay safe and warm..

Caroline

This  year  the  bazaar  was  slightly  different , less stalls, spaced  well apart and  no food cooked,  only bacon  rolls , usually they  have  shepherds/cottage  pie  which is  very  popular, I  don't  work  in the  kitchen, don't   have the "ology",  only safeguarding certificates.
I had  my "£1.00 ,  everyone  gets  a  prize" stall,  I made £135 and  was  very  pleased, we took almost  £700 , it  was made  up to  a  round total  by a donation, so although things  were  different we  didn't do to  badly, no  one  passes the  church,  I  had  posters  made and  one family   allowed  us to  put the 6ft X 2ft  poster on their  fence  at the  cross roads,  I am  sure that  drew  a
lot of  people in.
We had  25 victorian  type  dolls donated, we  were  hard  pushed  to sell any  as it would  appear  youngsters  don't  want  to  collect  them, if  would  break  your heart if  I  told you what we  charged just to get rid of them due to lack of space,  we had  about 12  left
Anyway  I  won't  go on but  just  to say  it was a  happy rewarding time  but  hard  work

Caroline, I don't think it's unreasonable to ask the stallholders and helpers to do a test, it's for everyone's benefit and I'm sure they'd be horrified if they did have Covid and unknowingly pass it on to the punters.

The people who were snowed in at the Tan Hill Inn have now been freed! Forty of them had actually booked to stay there but they ended up with another twenty guests! It was actually the mountain rescue that got through to the guest who needed medical attention, so not your average ambulance! People being snowed in there is a common occurrence but I think you're right that they weren't exactly unhappy about it.  ;D

There's a pub on the North Yorkshire moors that used to to have something similar happening regularly, not sure whether it still does or whether road improvements have put paid to the fun!

Very cold here but bright, the weekend's storm has seen off the begonias in my front garden and the rudbeckia in the back have also taken a beating. I'm hoping it stays dry enough tomorrow for me to pull out the begonias and put some bulbs in. Late I know but I've checked up and they can still be planted, will probably just flower later.

Had lunch with a friend today, quite busy in the pub, everyone seemed relaxed.

Well done with the bazaar LM.  :)

The story of the snowed in pub goers has made international news - heard a few mentions of it on the radio today. I read about it first on rootschat of course - good to be informed about all the important UK news via rootschat.

Rain rain and more rain here. Had a fine day or two, now rain again. Mostly light in my neck of the woods so little backup and flooding - more forecast over the next couple of days. I enjoy light rain and grey skies - probably why I love the UK so much. Also a bit cooler with temperatures only into the mid 20s. Downside = wet dog/s.

Lots of news about Omicron. (What ridiculous name. Surely there are some better letters of the Greek alphabet to choose from.  ::) ). Not surprisingly, there are a few cases here, one has been all over the place since arriving in Australia on Saturday. There are some restrictions/changes in place until more is known - postponed returning travellers, etc. Good idea.

Daughter’s dog to the vet today. Her immunotherapy hasn’t proved beneficial as yet, but still early days - hoping for some miracles. She’s been put into conventional drugs and drops to make her more comfortable in the meantime.

Caroline and Louisa - well done on your charity work. I hope all the effort is worthwhile and you are happy with the profits. Such a shame that your poor plants have suffered in the storms Roobarb.

Enjoy that lovely cold weather everyone.  :)

Well Ruskie, I always say "we can only do our best, miracles cost more" but under the circumstances like most charities they have all suffered over the last 20 months , as some of us have but I am not complaining

Well done Caroline and Louisa.
I must admit I went to bed feeling guilty last night. I'm a cold person, always have been and attributed it to as a child being in a house pre central heating and Lino floors.i just seemed to always be cold and had to wrap up.  I love my central heating and would say to be warm is one of the most important things for me ( I hate cold churches too.) Being underactive thyroid now doesn't help either.
There was a news item of an old peoples home that is STILL without electricity today since Friday due to the storm so has no heating or lighting. There were these 90 year olds wrapped up in lots of clothes and space blankets and staff taking food home to cook so they had hot food and a local fairground lent them a generator yesterday to help out. There was me all tucked up in a warm house and a warm bed ........

Yes under an  active thyroid does make you cold, plus many medications give cold extremities.
My Thyroxine tablets were reduced after I had a heart attack ,to slow things down a bit.
But I get by O.K.
Well all thawed out here ,no glassy pavements, so will make the most of it and my
trip to Bury will be safer today
than it would have been yesterday when I chickened out!
Still quite dark at almost eleven O’ clock.
Good to hear of Bazaars etc
doing well.
Many charities are refusing donations of goods,no storage.
What a pity if stuff gets dumped.
It amazes me what good reclaimable things get chucked out on the programmes like the one wher a young woman gets stuff before it gets in a skip and tarts it up for ridiculous amounts .
Why not donate to charity - ,many do collect free of charge.
Well post arrived, and Bury to visit so cheerio.
Look after yourselves,
Viktoria.

Today  is  a  better  day, went  shopping shopping  to a  centre,  got  very  busy at  about 11.30
I  bought 2  items  in  a  shop plus a photo  frame  my  grandaughter  wanted, amazingly  it  was  reduced  to  £3,  doesn't  matter  if it isn't  quite right,  when  I  got almost  out of the  shop  thinking  of  how  much  I  paid  I  realised the cashier hadn't charged  me  for the  frame  but  had wrapped  it separately, so  I  jumped  tbe queue , unchallenged,  to speak to the cashier,  I did  say to  my husband  if  I  had  been stopped it  would  not  have  been  my fault, luckily  I checked the  bill, I  can  sleep tonight.

As it  was getting  busy we  decided  to return  home, found  it  quite tiring to  be  honest, luckily  we  give  money to  most  in the  family  for Christmas, I  still have  bits to  buy  but I think it is  a  case  of getting   out really early to  beat  any crowds

Take  care  everyone

What a dark dull day ,lights in most of the time.
Good for  you L.M.
I knew I was given too much change a week or so back.I’d not had a £2 coin in my purse but was given change as if I had tendered  that amount .
My change was £1+  when it  ought to have been only change of £1.
The assistant  was adamant ,I accept it ,so I did but put the £1 in the charity box.

Daughter has the PM report from the horse ,how lucky she
had the courage to let him go so quickly, he had fallen in his stall so many times shown on a closed circuit camera ,despite his bed being deep and banked very high there was intense spinal damage,I mean half a ton crashing down up to fifty times a night!
I do nor exaggerate .
She is looking for another ,he was her hobby, relaxation and if there are more difficult times ahead through the Omicron variant she needs an outlet,a diversion from the intense pressure running a business puts people under with the difficulties in a pandemic.
She has a loyal workforce depending on her.Not least her son and his little family and her daughter .
They are both part of the workforce.

Hope everyone is well, and get to see loved ones where distance allows over Christmas.
My son sent a warning that there is a scam email regarding vaccination against The Omicron variant, it is a way to get your details and asks for your password I believe.
I need a new bulb for one if the bathroom ceiling lights .
I have never seen any like these ,they look like a hair roller, silver metal tube with holes at regular intervals .
They are dim at the best of times, not sure what the maximum is.
Well cheerio folks ,take care and only 24 days to Christmas!
Viktoria.

 seen one like ut.

MH - don’t say that!….. is that where all this is leading…. Hope not!
Good to see you posting… hope you’re still out and about dancing your feet off?

Viktoria- sounds like your daughters poor horse had suffered a great deal and no one wants to see such beautiful creatures in pain… I hope she’s able to find another horse to give her the much needed relaxation she deserves.
I count my blessings every day that we retired and closed our bus because tge thought of the responsibility of the 25 staff we had in tgese times would have been too much to bare.. I don’t envy her at all at the moment.

Well I’ve just seen a clip my son posted on his FB page of the consequences of all the rain they’re having…. 😳😳😳😩… they knew they’d bought on a flood plain ( mental if you ask me … but hey ho they’re living there not me!)… he’s waiting for his tractor to arrive so they can deal with the culvert to get rid of the water… fortunately it doesn’t seem to be near either the house or his work shop! House to be built on stilts I think… they won’t need to build a swimming pool they’ve got a natural one 😂😂… only joking!

Well we’re  making wreaths & table decorations today ready for Saturday… lots to discuss as new guidelines to put in place… can’t say the idea of wearing a face covering all day is appealing but it is what it is… just hope we still get punters… one villager has given us a donation of £150 which is very generous and a good start…

Take care and stay warm and dry
Caroline

Have seen more houses with their Christmas decorations up now.
I’ve just been to get my booster jab - moderna. Apparently they say they’re now keeping the Pfizer jabs for
the younger age groups, as that one is the only one licensed for younger people ( this is England I’m in ) . All other healthy adults are getting moderna . Staff were all lovely as they had been for my other  two jabs. Didn’t feel the jab and now at home with a cuppa .

Hope you don't get any ill effects Candleflame.

Yesterday it rained most of the day although it was mild, the rain stopped for a while in the afternoon so I went out and pulled the dead rudbeckia out of the garden, it didn't take much effort at all. My garden waste bin is now full, bit of a nuisance seeing as it won't be emptied now till March!  ;D

More rain today, attempted a walk but no sooner had got onto the very soggy field than icy rain started pelting down. Just as well I only live yards away!

Right from the start this Covid situation has felt like science fiction to me and I think that the name of new variant fits in with that.  It sounds like something George Lucas might have come up with for a new Star Wars film ..

.. 'Release Christmas 2021 at a cinema near you 'Revenge of the Omicron!'

I have found out I won't be able to use up a weeks holiday in December as hoped.  It's just not possible.  Oh well.  But I will be getting Christmas Day off which is what I wanted. :D

This has been an awful week for me.   Wasn't sure what I had to start with as sweated throughout Friday night, continued Saturday with headache.  By Sunday knew it was a cold - the worst I've ever had.   Consequently, missed Scarlett's 13th on Saturday, and the twins 1st birthday today.  Even if I had felt up to going (which I didn't) there was no point passing my germs around.

Will just have to write this week off.

:-Yes Annette ,I am sorry you missed those birthdays.
Take some Vitamin C tablets,a great “pick me up “.

Well  Omicron  has got to Bolton !
Somewhere else not too far away, just caught the end of the news’s did not hear properly.

Few people in  Bury and on the bus we’re wearing masks, missed out and late buses etc meant when they came they were full, no chance of distancing .

When I went to Bury ,no one at the Town Hall door to limit how many in the reception area.
Oh dear, we relaxed far too soon I fear and I do feel Christmas  is now under threat.

I got some more books for FH. Wipe clean ones.
He knows his letters and phonics but his formation of them is not good -
,the child should form them in a way that means cursive writing comes easily to them later.
His school don’t seem to bother too much.
He will find it hard to alter later.
The books are like games, so a bit of fun hopefully.
Oooh if I had a pound for every time —-“ all the way round and up -down -flick .”

I half typed an answer a couple of hours ago ,but posted it and it is nowhere!
Including a 15th century recipe for poached pears in red wine with ginger , cinnamon ,saffron, sugar, wine vinegar .
Best left to cool ,flavour intensifies .
With cream or ice cream, some snappy biscuits like brandy snaps but Lotus Speculoos are great.
A nice alternative for those not fond of Christmas pud.
The word Wardonys was used for these cooked pears.
Was in the Sunday Telegraph magazine in 1965 .

Some more strong winds in the night, and heavy rain.
I have garden work to do, it was sooooo cold when dry and bright ,too cold for me.!

Well another cuppa and an earlier night I think.
One of the bulbs or something in one of the two bathroom ceiling lights has gone very diml,I have never seen anything like them ,they look like metal hair rollers .Looked it up and G9 came up so must get some, son says I have some but nothing looks like these.
Oh dear ,perhaps I had better take one out and hope our local wonderful Aladdin’s cave hardware shop has some, otherwise another trip to Bury.

Son talks about LEDs and thingies and wattage ,why the heck do THEY make it all so difficult!
I have stacks of old bulbs ,one light in my old house needed 250 bulbs I seem to remember, and the nearest stocker was at Hebden Bridge ,one of those “four candles / fork ‘andles” ones.
Nice reason to go to Hebden Bridge.

Well , must let granddaughter know the money is in her account for her Christmas present ,she wants some tableware .
Got some Thermal socks for grandson ,just saw them ,very reasonable when in Bury , nine pairs were a real bargain ,cheaper the more you bought .
Just a “ stocking filler “ ——- sorry —— couldn’t resist.
So cheerio ,look after yourselves .
Viktoria.

RTL - after all your hard work I’m really saddened to hear you’ve lost out on your weeks holiday which I’m sure you were looking forward to and desperately need..

Well Viktoria I do hope you’re wrong about Christmas… after last year we don’t really want to go through that again… let’s hope plenty of people get their 1st, 2nd and booster jabs to help everyone feel a little safer..

There is a lot to be said for the “ ordinary”,the  wellknown, familiar, usual.
“The daily round the common task will furnish all I need to ask”.,from a well known hymn, how many undergoing difficult treatments long for the ordinary, even boring times before.
A bit daft this but more than a grain of truth in it beyond the comical:-
Norah Batty from “Last of the Summer Wine.”
“Boring, there’s nowt wrong with boring, you know where you are with
boring .
I trained my Wally ( her husband) to be boring , had just got him right when he went and died , yes, there’s nowt wrong with boring.
There ought to be more of it about!”

Morning all. Not ignoring everything that has been posted, but I have a question .

Tv this morning had lovely footage of a schools nativity play. Our daughters now in their 30's , took part in nativity in nursery and school productions in junior school. I however don't remember being in any nativity plays at school or church, my mum hasn't recorded anything in her detailed diaries either whereas everything else is recorded . I do have vivid memories of being in other school productions and what I did, what I wore etc and they are in her diary.
I can remember learning the Christmas carols (and at church ) so did my school and church just not do such things as dressing up back in the day? It seems strange that I have no memories or even expectations that I might get to play a wise man ( person) or some thing. My youngest was desperate to play Mary and got to but I don't even recall any ambitions ?
What does anyone else recall?

Can’t claim any fame of being in a nativity play…but I was a fairy in a production of A Mid Summer Nights Dream…. Apparently I had to be yanked off the stage as I was busy looking for my Mum and Dad and hadn’t spotted everyone else had gone… last time I was on the stage… think I was about 4 yrs old…

Such fun in the Nativity plays, often with another slant but always came to the point ,such as God wondering where the best place would be for Jesus to be born, so Hawaii ,with Hula dancers, Scotland with boys (my grandson included ) wearing the kilt, the Great Plains of America. With an Indian encampment ,squaws ( grand daughter included  ) with papooses on their backs ,braves and the big Chief ,China with lovely CheongSam dresses,
Spain with Senoritas ,castanets and Flamenco etc etc.
Of course the place finally decided upon was Bethlehem.
Jolly  songs, lovely home made costumes ,great fun.
The sheep in the fields ,their costumes were based on Shaun the sheep, the chickens pecking round with yellow rubber gloves on their feet ,oxen ,donkey and camels - all in costumes .
Those little plays had parents laughing and then with bright eyes as the whole point was reached .
Angels galore, Tea towels on heads shepherds, and magnificent kings ,always if three nations, head wear, bejewelled turban, typical crown and one with a peacock’s feather , gifts in wonderful containers
Trailing robes ,Caspar, Balthazar  and  Melchior .
Girls who were chosen to be Mary never forgot how special it was.

Such hard work but always worth it.

Viktoria.

Well done your mum CF keeping a comprehensive diary and photo record of family events. Nothing of that sort in our family, just a few random photos over the years and a couple of special ones but I have compensated by going rather OTT on both! I do remember playing the part of Mary in a nativity play one year but think mostly ours were just classroom audience and small, though there were a couple of school productions or fancy dress evenings as well and mum did do really well in producing suitable attire for us all.

We did a bit of a shopping trip today, mid morning to early afternoon and the handful of places we called in on timed well for quietness on our visits, just small outlets mainly and one larger store and found one still only doing click and collect until Monday but no urgency for what we were after. NZ started new traffic light system from midnight with a bit more freedom with vaccination passes, opening of pubs and sit down eating establishments and the like, masks required retail and public transport. Still border boundary Auckland region for another fortnight with the bigger number of active cases but numbers easing off a little today at least. School holidays will be on us again  then as well, bound to be busier with families getting about hither and yon.

Vaccinations accomplished for the majority eligible, extra push for those slower off the mark and particularly for sector considered more vulnerable and many incentives offered. Maori population suffered through the 1918 influenza pandemic and have been quite hard hit with this virus and also some of the households of our Pacific residents, some sharing accommodation with extended family or multi generational groupings. Still quite a number making up that minority though who just won't vaccinate and then those who are exempted.

Not nice being under the weather on the health front at any time, wishing all well ...

Good to hear that things are a little easier there, a good outcome of a successful vaccination programme. The mandatory mask wearing in shops and public transport must provide some reassurance for you.

I've been getting rather stressed trying to book an appointment for my booster jab, there were very few places coming up on the NHS website and were at the other side of the nearest large town. The distance itself isn't a concern, just the thought that if the jab made me feel unwell it's not near home. Also my prima Donna of a car won't go anywhere in snow, there was quite a lot over there yesterday. Anyway, I went online yesterday and managed to get one nearer to home so it wouldn't cost an arm and a leg if I had to get a taxi! Then last night a friend sent me some info about walk in clinics, there's one nearer on Monday which is much more convenient for me so I'll go there.

Morning all
I’ve had a bit of a busy week - booster on Wednesday ( moderna) . I’d been expecting Pfizer as that’s what my husband had a few weeks ago , but apparently they’ve changed the rules again and they’re keeping Pfizer for the youngsters and the vulnerable as it’s the only one licensed for youngsters.
The lady at the centre asked if I’d had any reaction to my first two az jabs and I said no to which she responded - you’re lucky! Brilliant injector this time too and didn’t feel it. Have been fine apart from a bit of a sore arm when I lay on it on night one , but fine now.
Today I’ve been to the dentists to get my broken tooth mended. I’m still ‘ defrosting’ from the injection. I had a first though - the dentist put fluoride varnish on all my teeth and seemed surprised when I asked if this was something new. He did say every dentist was different but certainly my previous guy who left the practice had never offered it before. Was wondering if others have had it? I had a look online and it’s on the nhs website so I’ve clearly been behind the times!

Yes I've had that Candleflame, mine is a private dentist so I didn't know if the NHS offered it. I know now! Great to get your tooth sorted.

Thanks MH, I can put up with a sore arm.  :)

Seems so wrong that people should have difficulties trying to do the right thing by getting their boosters yet others have no difficulty at all dodging getting any!

We have to be much more draconian I feel ,not nice but essential .

Well an email this morning ,Lots if trouble, bother, hassle and goodness knows what getting a new ignition knob for my stainless steel hob.
Others  are slightly damaged because they are positioned very near pan supports which get hot and  have blistered the adjacent knobs.
White ones came ,but the originals are silver. It now seems the white would not have fitted  anyway, yet the white ignition one does .
Email this morning that I can choose a new one, upgrade if I like !
The Bosch one has the knobs better placed ,not near any pan supports ,so I think that is the one .
The present one is dead basic house renovators bog standard ,but it seems a shame to discard it  just for five plastic knobs, the fact that via D&G I have bought it probably four times over without any repairs needed.
I also have enough “points” from my D&G coverage to buy me a new Microwave ,this one functioning ,but looking a bit the worse for wear .
Want a red one ,need a new red kettle too, Russell Hobbs -to match my toaster -do a nice narrow one .
Coffee morning at a nearby Methodist Church on Saturday, also a collection of essential foods for their food bank .
Was going to go ,as I know quite a few people there .
I used to go in to their playgroup mornings to meet the children who would come at four to the school where I worked ,that meant there was someone they knew and it was a bit easier for them to settle .
However, with caution in mind and  a possible Christmas visit to see FH and baby Kyra , also the rest of the family I can manage to semi isolate for a few weeks more .
Two Christmas cards already ,some people must have nothing else to do.!
Had fun with a bathroom light, oh golly gosh ,lumens and wattage and voltage etc etc etc, they are soft dim lights ( a bit like me!)maximum gives not a good  light ,son advised from afar, re not to exceed the oojongtiddleyipoo whatsit ,so decision is I need new lights which will take a higher wattage/ voltage—— whatever!
Another “ after Christmas  “project.
Well must get on, I am a bit daft but not so much that  without checking I will order the new hob so about eight hours on the phone ahead!
Cheerio.a cuppa and loo before I am committed ,by that I mean committed to waiting on the phone, not to an institution - although given the frustration that is not an impossibility!

Phoned D&G immediately after previous post  and now at 1-15 finally done and dusted,at first D&G would not replace with a Bosch ,other options had pan supports as previous hob, the next alternative had controls at the front not  the side ,now FH does not come often but  hopefully in the future the baby as a toddler will ,and so easy to reach up , anyway I need things as before I am too old to cope with cooker knobs in the wrong place !
So many toys are push button rubbish ,FH was good really, but there was the odd occasion when the freezer was on superfreeze etc!
Phew, well lunchtime and another cuppa ,then some serious tidying up of paperwork ,re D& G and Belgian pension, I will soon get confirmation from Bury Town Hall that I am still alive! Then council Tax documents, passport and Electoral  Roll stuff can be neatly filed away.

Gosh Viktoria you do have a very busy life with things to sort and do. Mine is very pedestrian by comparison. Now which Santa goes with this message …… :)

Oh but Candleflame, it is so much wasted time!
Not to mention the cost of waiting on the phone for such long times with mind boggling inane music!
To think a full four burner hob ,was functioning perfectly well except the ignition button broke inside,a small ring that fits over the spark device ,now has to be scrapped because the buttons/ knobs are obsolete in a six year old gadget!.Some of the knobs we’re a bit blistered because they were placed so near pan supports .
The new one is better designed.Well a Bosch .
Well ,not my fault and as I have probably bought it a few times over through insurance with D&G I am not letting myself feel guilty.

Her indoors—— ( waiting for someone to answer the phone)
Viktoria.

Oh,RTL, no buses today but I did not know that until someone passing told me.
I had waited forty mins for a twenty mins service.
Seemingly the road into and out of Ramsbottom was closed all day from the small hours as it was a crime scene!
A fight and stabbing in the road then a car unable to avoid the scene hit the person already stabbed!
The driver is stated as having taken drugs ,this was at a sort of crossroads ,
Callender St,( textile machinery not for dates)and what is locally termed Baptist Brow , proper name Cross St,a very steep street.

Oh dear ,how sad for all concerned.
There seems to be a tremendous rise in stabbings lately.

The point of mentioning the wait in the rain is how R.T.L does a long wait day in day out.
I was frozen and damp despite there being a rudimentary bus shelter.
Home to a big beaker of Bovril.
Sorted out some papers from having to prove to Belgium I am still alive, actually  thought I might be a bit “ previous” as I was so cold and chilled right through.

Well  food beckons ,so a Quorn pepper steak and salad ,a very few oven chips and pepper sauce.

Sinterklaas on Monday , ( Flemish slang for Saint Nicholas) must get some marzipan fruit for my little 64 year old son to put in his wooden clog! Also some chocolate money.
Belgian children will get their presents on Monday plus the marzipan etc ,adults at New Year.
Oh happy days!

Well I must start the oven for the chips ,wash the salad and do the steak and sauce .
It is one long slog! ::

TY get well soon.
Viktoria, quoting my favourite philosopher, Nora Batty, reply 21.  ;)
I listened to a repeat episode of "The Moral Maze" last night - topic happiness. Several contributors pointed out that the pursuit of happiness for its' own sake is self-defeating. Nora would agree with that.

Sorry to hear you haven't been well lately TY; I join with others in hoping you will get well soon.

I am starting another block of nightshifts tonight so I was free to go to Church this morning.  It was a very good service and the Church was looking very Christmassy.  I wore a warm Christmas jumper.  I wore mask as did a man sitting next to me but the overwhelming majority were not wearing any face covering
After the service, I went to get the bus home.  In the shelter I saw a notice up stating that there would be no buses til 2000 hours and that pick up would be at a temporary stop outside 'Maughans' (a local hardware store).  There were quite a few people at the shelter and others at a shelter nearby.  No one was looking at the notices.  So I told people at both shelters about the notice.  Some checked for themselves, some thanked me and we all duly marched around the corner and down the street to Maughans where we stood in the freezing cold, unsheltered from rain at temporary pick up point.  It took a while for bus to come as it was Sunday service.
When bus came, driver picked us up but said in a tolerant manner we should really be at other stop.  I pointed out about the notices at other two shelters.  Driver said that was because of a street Winter Fayre but this no longer applied as it had been cancelled due to bad weather.
Perhaps I shouldn't be so pedantic about looking at and following bus stop notices ..  :-[ ::)
On the subject of bad weather, someone has told me that the War Memorial at New York (Tyneside) was blown over in the storm last week. :-\  I hope it has not broken and can be re-erected.  Two of my ancestors happen to be  recorded on this along with many others from their village who lost their lives serving in the Great War.

RTL 2 things I take from your post.
 1. You need to be psychic to travel by bus (or have phone app).
 2. Storm Arwen hasn't even spared the dead. What kind of war memorial is it?

I agree Maidenstone, unfortunately I have no psychic abilities nor a phone app.  I don't know if phone apps cover changes of pick up points.

http://www.newmp.org.uk/detail.php?contentId=8160

This website shows a photo of what the memorial was like.  Might still be like if it is not broken and can be put back up.
It never occurred to me until I heard about this that war memorials might be at risk during that storm. :-\

I am on first bus now on way to nightshift.  Thankfully, the bus windows aren't open so I am not freezing .. perhaps, they think there is enough ventilation tonight.  Earlier this week when I had an early start shift a woman complained about the cold bus seats and said in a loud voice that it was like having to sit "on top of a b****y iceburg!"

I hope the rest of your journeys this week go better RTL, particularly as there doesn't seem to be any prospect of an hour in the weather. What a shame about the war memorial, I hope it can be sorted out.

Caroline, hope your Christmas fair/fayre/bazaar went well and you managed to sell all your baubles!

First second bus which came today at bus station was one that took me on memorial route on return.
I tried to take a kindle photo as we passed by but we seemed to pass by in a jiffy on bus.  I think I saw that base of memorial is up, but if I saw rightly I think the Cross on top is missing.
Will try to have another better look tomorrow if that is first second bus that comes at bus station after shift finished.
This morning first bus very late and then two came together; tailback traffic jam was the worst I have ever seen it.
Hope you enjoyed your walk today Roobarb if you went out for one.  I have heard weather is predicted not very good for tomorrow.

An hour in the weather?? I'm sure I typed 'improvement '!  ::) Pesky technology, I'm sure you got the gist anyway.
No walk today I'm afraid, lots of rain.

As my brain defogged, I caught up with earlier posts on here.
When I first started School, I rather got on the wrong side of the teacher - she drew a horse on the board, a sort of pair of potato shapes with legs, and I thought it was supposed to be funny. So I laughed.
It wasn't supposed to be funny, just her poor drawing. But she marched up to me, and held out the chalk, saying "If you think you can do better, get up and do it".
Well every adult I knew could draw, and I didn't realise I was supposed to apologise. I didn't realise even that she was being sarcastic. I got up, rubbed hers out and drew a "proper" horse. Dead silence from her, then tight-lipped "Sit down and don't show off"
I'd no idea what I'd done wrong, but - boy was I marked out for the rest of that entire School year.
She then "included me out" of everything: "oh what a shame, there are not enough skipping ropes" (guess who had to sit it out!) including the Nativity play.
Everyone else was cast, right down to fourth sheep. My best friend was to play Mary (after all she was the local doctor's daughter) . She found it hard to remember her lines and moves, so at her house or mine, we rehearsed her.
Day of the Nativity play -my poor friend went down with a lurgy, but her mum 'phoned and said" But you'll be alright, her best friend knows it better than she does, and as you didn't cast her, she can step right in - I'm coming to the performance, to see it"
So I ended up playing Mary, the teacher couldn't get out of it.
It was years later before I asked my friend if hers had been a real lurgy, or was it her mum - who'd seen what was going on - "evening things up".She said she'd had a sore throat, honestly, but her mum - a doctor -had said her voice needed a rest.
Hmmmm.
So petty.
TY

Just to let off steam!
Pointless on TV.
Question about Remembrance Sunday ,a young pair ,well they thought it might be sometime in November ,I won’t go on but as you can imagine I was shouting at the TV.
Oh dear, how do they escape the information on TV ,the Poppies etc etc. .
I must forget it, but will it ever be totally forgotten ,I hope I am not here to see that.
Big storm on its way , and yes how ever are those poor souls faring still without power ?
In this day and age ,get to the moon ,but power lines etc down!
MyRollerBall Dyson is poorly, brushes not rotating ,have checked for threads round spindle etc with no success .
Have had it a good few years , so easy to manoeuvre , and much lighter than the other big Dyson I had ,this was the upstairs one in my other house.
Have a lightweight Morphy Richards upstairs now here.

I will ask FatherChristmas !

Gas fire check tomorrow , so another wait in .However given the weather I am not bothered.

Well ,some cards written, must do the abroad ones ,ought to have done those first.
No idea re my evening meal ,but a freezer full so won’t starve.
Hope everyone is O.K.and escape unscathed when the storm unleashes itself .

Britain has the highest number of people with the new virus in Europe.
It is spreading so quickly .
82% of people asked are very concerned about it, I that would include me were I to be asked.

Well, must plod on folks.
Look after yourselves .
Viktoria.

Everyone else was cast, right down to fourth sheep.

"The Archers" are performing a mystery play at Christmas. Chelsea Horrobin, teenage daughter of the redoubtable Tracy and made in the same mould, related how she had been demoted to sheep from her original role of Mary at nursery school nativity play for using the Baby Jesus doll to hit Joseph. She felt very hot in the sheep costume during the performance and stripped off to her underwear.

Viktoria, this is last week. TY is catching up, a week behind, having lost November.
