Hi,
I am trying to find the parents/grandparents of Leonard Charles Rutt. He was born in 1904 in Barnet, London. I have found his birth but cannot find him in the 1911 Census?
I have the information from 1939 Register but his parents, grandparents elude me.

GRO gives Leonards mmn as Deebank, there are two other Rutt/Deebank births in Barnet
Rose Sophia1899 and Sarah Ada 1899
Rose is in Barnet in 1901 with parents James and Angelina Rutt.
There are stepchildren with surname Dick so...
Marriage 1882 Angelina Deebank to Alexander Dick.
Then marriage 1897 James Rutt and Angelina Dick.

The family are in friern Barnet in 1911, transcribed Butt on FindMyPast.

Being fair to the transcriber of the 1911 it could have said either Rutt or Butt :).

The 1897 marriage was at St Paul Enfield on 1 August.
James was 40 lab. father Charles Rutt also Lab.
Angelina was 33 widow her father Thomas Deebank -Bricklayer
Witness Elizabeth Cobb and Jesse Hills.
Bride and groom signed witnesses made their mark.

Thomas Deebank (Angelina's father) married Eliza Miller at St Pancras 4 April 1863
His father John also a bricklayer
Her father Samuel Deceased.
Witnesses are John Deebank and Susannah Deebank
Thomas moved frequently, job related I expect and had a large family, unfortunately Eliza is a widow in 1911 and how many children she had was not recorded.

1861 Thomas Deebank is in Shropshire age 21 he is living with Ann age 28 I cannot find a formal marriage
They did have a child Ann Catherine 1860 mmn Tompson
she was baptized 14 October 1860 in Bridgnorth Ann Katherine of Thomas and Ann Deebank buried 30 June 1861.
Sarah Ann age 10 with them has to be from a previous relationship of Ann.
1863 of course he is in London marrying Eliza Miller.

James Rutt served in the Bedfordshire Regiment signed up age 19 on 24 October 1877 he served a total of 12 years, he was sent to India 6 March 1879. It names his father as Charles, plus more information. Discharge seems to be 23 October 1889
It is on Fold 3 on ancestry.

Alexander Dick -Angelina's first husband disappears after 1888 (birth of son William James in Wandsworth). At some point Angelina moves to Friern Barnet ref: 1891 census Angelina Dick 27,

Born 29 July 1888. There is a notation about his father -unknown if dead or alive.
William James Dick serves in WW1 and moves to Manitoba Canada arriving 10 June 1921 with his wife and 3 children intending to go to his sister. He died 1947 age 59, 4 children 9 grandchildren obit on ancestry.
Florence Eliza Dick goes to Canada age 19 arriving 7 October 1906
Thomas Deebank Dick remains in England born 10 March 1883 per school admin records.
They had another child William Alfred born 1885 Wandsworth died 1886 age 1
So at this point 4 children 3 alive 1 deceased.
She knows James Rutt by 1891 as daughter Elizabeth Eliza Rutt Dick reg Barnet 1892.

They marry 1 August 1897 (seven years after Alexander disappears) I believe it was the required waiting time.
I went on this track as Angelina says in 1911 that she has been married 20 years 10 children 7 alive 3 deceased.
She counts from circa 1891 with James to come up with 20 years but I'll be darned if I can find 10 children 9 with James yes but the 10th is elusive, although there is this one Rose Dicks 1898 no mmn died 1898.Needs further research perhaps a baptism can be found.
Elizabeth, James and Edward with the last name Dick see previously listed.
