Title: Fletchers (Connecticut) inc UPDATE
Post by: jinks on Friday 02 September 05 01:43 BST (UK)
Are you decended from a Fletcher Family that
emigrated from Lancashire England in the late
1800's.

I have one line of my tree [empty]

James Fletcher left for America in the late 1800's
were we believe he married Susan (surname unknown)
and had issue Mary Agnes, Charles James and
Irene Jane.

James was born 1864 and died in 1901 at the age of 38.

Nothing more is known about the family.

Except The Family think he settled in ?Waterbury?
Connecticut.

Jinx,

Do a google search for free census forms then download the 1900 census and you can fill in the blanks.

In the case above:
James is the head of the household;he is white;a male; born May of 1866;he 34 years of age; he has been married 8 years; he was born in England as were his father (England) and his mother (England); he immigrated in 1888 and has been in the US for 12 years;he is a naturalizeed citizen, his occupation is a stone cutter; he is able to read and write and speak English; he rents his home.

The women also have a blank to fill in for the number of children that they have had and how many are still living.

Hope that this makes sense----Genealiza

Thanks for that again ;D

This line is all new to me.

My Ancestors stayed behind in England, but
we knew of James emigrating and of his death
in 1901.

But that was about all I knew.

Just checked out the websites for Waterbury and
Middletown City.

Wow their huge places.

UPDATE

I have now found out that Michael Joseph Daly
and Mary Agnes (nee Fletcher) had at least one
child.

Mary Agnes Daly born New Haven, Connecticut

Unfortunately she died in 1976

(Full information available on IGI FreeSearch
website.)

The person who submitted this information
submitted it after 1991. And it was from a member
of the LDS Church.

What does the above mean?

Would it be a relation?

So near yet so far away!

Jinks,

I realize that this post is quite old but I just came across it. I hope you are still active in the forum.

James Fletcher was my great grandfather. His daughter Mary Agnes (Fletcher) Daly was my grandmother. She died when I was a teen and I remember her well.

I am the daughter of her son, Joseph Edmund Daly. I grew up in Waterbury, CT and raised my 5 children there. They are all great great grandchildren of James Fletcher.

I would be happy to correspond with you and learn more about Blackburn Lancashire and the people from whom my grandmother descended.

Regards,
Barbara

Hi Barbara

I am active, but for some reason only just seen this reply!!

Since my post i have been in contact with a possible close relative to you - Abba?

James Fletcher was born in Alston (on a map look for Longridge / Ribchester) in Lancashire.

I am descended from James's brother Joseph - So the common ancestors are their parents Charles Fletcher and Jane (nee Swarbrick).
