Hi all. After doing a PRONI name search I have the following PRONI reference number for a Pre 1858 will for John KNOX:
T/808 p.8870 & 13214
Can someone tell me if this can be accessed online somehow? I did already try using the eCatalogue but maybe used it incorrectly.
Otherwise, will this require an email to PRONI to have the record looked up as I cannot visit from Australia.

Don’t think it’s a will, the name appears in the following collection
Repository : Public Record Office for Northern Ireland
PRONI Reference : T808
Title : Groves Manuscripts
Dates : c.1650-1900
Description : Groves Manuscripts comprising genealogical and testamentary papers, notes, abstracts, census substitutes including freeholder lists, Hearthmoney rolls, poll books and other material, c.1650-1900

No I just did a name search like you, it does exist but a copy was made and it is located in the Grove estate/manuscript papers… perhaps they were the solicitors.
It isn’t online, you will need to contact proni with the refence number

It is unlikely PRONI would do lookups for this (even pre-covid) and will probably forward you a list of researchers who you could employ to find the information for you.

date is usually the date the will was proved
Groves manuscripts are not on FindMyPast

I checked the registry of deeds (familysearch) and there is nothing for John Knox in that timeframe, only a John Knox of Dublin in 1728

I also checked the newspapers but didn't find anything

That's okay. I already have snippets of information, but was interested in the listing on PRONI.
I was hoping to get a lead on the parentage of Rev John Knox.

In this previous thread is a listing for KNOX and it gives abbreviations V.D. and E.T. (F.F.). Any idea what they mean?

This is his son John. I am looking for parentage of the older John (of Glaslough). He was at the Siege of Derry in 1649 so presume he must have been born around 1620-1630 perhaps.

not many records survive that early.
I guess he died after 1686 1708 (from your previous thread)

do you have this early Betham's extraction.
Right man but not sure if it means anything significant
Bethams has a lot of early Knox references have you been through them all

I was hoping those abbreviations could lead to his education, and possibly list a father.

As for the Betham extract, yes, I think I have seen it before. The Leslie's owned the estate (?) at Glaslough where the church was that Rev John Knox ministered. I haven't found a family connection between the two families though.

Apart from possibly F.F, this is on the wrong track.
You need to go back to the source of the abbreviations, and understand them in that context.
"coll Mar 1 to V. D. and E.T. (F.F.)"
The meaning was actually mainly (if indirectly) given by Hallmark in the previous referenced thread.
Coll = collated to = appointed to a benefice
In this case the benefice is
V.D. = Vicarage of Donagh
and
E.T. = Errigle-Trough
