Title: Occupation ?
Post by: Yvonne Donnellon on Thursday 06 January 22 09:21 GMT (UK)
Hi

Can anyone tell me what the word after scale is?  This lady's father was a fish hawker so is it something to do with removing scales?

I thought Repairer but not sure about the p. I can't think of anything else that looks like that though.

Maybe it is supposed to read Scale Preparer - preparation of fish.

Is there another 'p' on the page?

I think it's Scale(s?) Repairer, as in weighing scales.

You haven't said which census this is from, but I see the enumerator has given it the occupational code 260, which happens to be the one used in 1921 for repairers of weighing scales:

Yes, it's the 1921 census, thank you!
