Title: BEM medal. Civilian.
Post by: army 1 on Sunday 09 January 22 23:58 GMT (UK)
In clearing out my father in laws house we came across a British Empire Medal. Eventually we found paperwork.  The letter inviting my wife's grandfather to the Palace to meet King George the 6th.
My wife has a younger brother. Who has more claim to hold on to the medal?
Does it go to the male line or the eldest?

It will depend on the jurisdiction, the terms of any will, and whether there are other potential beneficiaries.

The most likely answer, if the medal is not the subject of a specific bequest, is that all those entitled to a share of the estate have an equal right of ownership.  So they would have to sort it out amongst themselves.
