Hi everyone.
I am looking for ideas for a date for this photo. And an age if anyone would care to guess.
The back of the card is plain chocolate brown, the same colour as the edges.
It comes from my grandparents photo collection so I assume it is a member of my grandfather’s mother’s family who were from Barnstaple. His grandparents were Henry Symons 1849 Barnstaple and Ann Maria Mars (or Mears) 1848 Marwood so I assume this may be someone linked to them.

Looking at the raised shoulders it would Edwardian or a bit later when the masculine look came into fashion can't see more of the sleeves.

Thank you very much. I will take a look for other directories and see if I can find him later.

Thank you very much. I will admit at this point that I wasn’t 100% sure the photo was a woman!
My Symons/Mars ancestors left Barnstaple for Cardiff in the 1870s so it seems this is most likely a relative sending them a photo, or I guess maybe a visit back to Devon. I need to try to find out more about the social/cultural ‘etiquette’ surrounding these photos, when and why people would have had them taken. I assume they were quite expensive but I realise I know nothing about the context.
