Title: Michael Mulcahy & Mary Cronican (1870's) Grange/Ballynamertinagh
Post by: John Mulcahy on Wednesday 12 January 22 12:20 GMT (UK)
I am seeking any help in researching my Great Grandparents, Michael Mulcahy & Mary Cronican of Grange/Ballynamertinagh  married in 1876.

Looking for any details of their ancestors, confirmation of children etc.

I believe they are the parents of my Grandfather, Michael and may have moved to Midleton, Co. Cork by 1885.

thanks in advance for any help.

JM

.......my Great Grandparents, Michael Mulcahy & Mary Cronican of Grange/Ballynamertinagh  married in 1876.

Firstly for others, here's the marriage on 29th February 1876 in Grange RC Church, Ardmore R.D. Michael's father James, a small farmer still alive. Mary's father Lawrence Cronikan a farmer dead.
Michael living in the townland of Currah (sic).

Curragh townland, Ardmore civil parish

There's a Michael and Mary Mulcahy with three children in the 1901 census in Curragh.

Son Nicholas (aged 20) so born approx 1881.
Birth of a Nicholas Mulcahy on 3rd January 1881 at Currah (sic)     MMN Cronican

So they're still at Curragh in 1901. Note a Michael, aged 14.

Many thanks to you both for your replies and please accept my apologies for a the late acknowledgement.  I had seen some of these records but not all and as a result of what you have posted here and some follow on searching I have concluded that I am on the trail of the wrong Michael and Mary Mulcahy

I believe my ancestors are Michael and Mary recorded in the 1901 census as living in house no. 8 in Park Street, Midleton Co. Cork.  I am relatively sure this is the correct family. The reason I think that these are my ancestors is that Margaret Kilty also lived in Park Street at the time (with her grandparents) and Michael went on to marry her in 1905.  They are living in house no. 4 in Park Street in the 1911 census with their young family.  There is little knowledge I can find yet from current family members.

I have looked at all of the Michael Mulcahys that I can find in Midleton c. 1870 -1912 who had a wife called Mary in the search for my great grandparents.  I find three extra ones in the Midleton DED and none match very well.
There is a Michael Mulcahy and Mary Harvey, but they had 13 children between 1876 and 1896, lived variously in Free State Lane and the Cork Road.  They had children called Ellen (1881), Michael (1885) and Hanorah (1896) which loosely match up with the Park Street family but 10 kids are missing.

There is a Michael Mulcahy and Mary Hennessy in Dungourney he is a blacksmith and farmer with 11 children.  Including a son called Michael  And a third Michael Mulcahy and his wife Mary a labourer in Walshtown.  But they do not have a son called Michael.

As I searched further afield I found Michael Mulcahy in Ardmore and though I may be  onto the right line.

thank you again for your help.
