Looking for information about Ethel Frances Gluyas (b1892) who worked at Geraldra Station, near Stockinbingal around 1911. She is my great grandmother and would like any information. Thanks Donna

May I please ask some questions. I am not related to your Ethel but I am NSW centric, born and bred on the Lachlan. Stockinbingal is of course in regional NSW.

From NSW electoral Roll, 1902 BLAND, Polling place as Stockinbingal
William HENNESSY, a farmer at Geraldra
Charlotte HENNESSY, domestic duties at Geraldra
Isabelle Jane HENNESSY, domestic duties, at Geraldra.
John SHEATHER, farmer at Geraldra
It was not compulsory to enrol, you needed to be aged 21 and over and a British Subject and have lived at the one location for the six months immediately before enrolling. So for example, shearers at the Geraldra woodsheds for a month, twice a year would not be enrolled using that as their address.
ADD, Here is a live link to a newspaper with a good description of Geraldra Station in February 1904. (80,000 acres, 50,000 sheep).

I can see a birth for Ethel GLUYAS in March 1882, registered Cobar, but not to those parents, and her middle name would be Jane.
JM Edited to better reflect the findings via the NSW BDM online search for births.

My grandmother Belle was born at Geraralda Station in September 1911. Ethel was working there in some capacity and Belle's father was also working there at this time. Ethel was 19 at the time so probably working as a domestic on the property. DNA matches leads to him having the surname Hall. I have Ancestry access and have looked at census lists etc for this time period to try and find information but nothing has been forthcoming. Wondering if someone may have access to records for Geraldra Station and can see employee records for 1910 and 1911. Just trying to get a name for my great grandfather and fill in a big blank.

There are in many cases no surviving records for stations and from initial searches I can't see that anything survives for Geraldra.
I do however note an Alfred Hall of Stockinbingal in 1899 complaining of being wrongfully identified as being fined for bad language. He notes that he has been in the area 16 years, and for 9 of them employed by Mr G. Davidson.

An obituary for Alfred Hall Senior notes specifically that he worked on Geraldra Station until he retired in 1912

He had one son, Alfred William Hall, who was single when he signed up for WWI in September 1916.
Alfred William was born in 1892 so of an age of Ethel. Seems like a good possible candidate.

Alfred HALL is shown on the Electoral Roll 1902 BLAND, polling Stockingbal, but his residential address is given as Stockinbingal. (Predictative text keeps changing the spelling : ::) ). So that supports the newspaper info found by jorose.
I also agree about station records, many are extant and others seem to have been lost over time. It depended on where stored, weather ... floods/fires, and who appreciated keeping old records.... pedigree charts on stock, yes keep that; crop expenses and harvest returns, yes keep that; who may have had a one night stand ... no, don't write that down; ....
So from the 1911 birth cert .. strictly only that document ... who were the midwives/doctor/witnesses, what was the recorded occupation for baby's mum, and for the informant : what name, of what address, and what relationship to baby....

Sarah Jane FREEMAN married 1880 Cootamundra to Patrick JORDAN
2 sons: John Thomas 1881 and David Edward 1885
Sarah married 2nd time 1890 Cootamundra to Alfred Will HALL
The boys from the first marriage should not be discounted (as possible fathers for Belle), as they might have used the name HALL when their mother remarried.
I can see David married in Feb 1912 in Cootamundra, so perhaps he was working with stepfather at Geraldra in 1911.

And indeed , dare I say it ::) Alfred senior himself should not be discounted!

Thank you everyone. This gives me something to look at. I'll see whether this ties with any DNA matches I have also.
