Hi
I hope someone can help. I am trying to find a Marriage Certificate for a Robert Cunningham Cook Galloway married to Mary Hoggard in 1882 Gateshead - as stated on the FreeBMD site, but I can't find them on the Gateshead Registry Office site or the Durham Registry Office site.
I am also trying to find Mary Galloway's Death Certificate - died 1898 Gateshead - as stated on the FreeBMD site but again, the same problem.
Any ideas?
Thanks Mo

Did you know that a birth or death cert can be ordered from the site above as a PDF sent to your computer for just £7,rather than the usual £11.
The option is NOT available for marriage certs though and they have to be ordered the old way via snail mail for £11.

I think you’ll find that the Gateshead site doesn’t yet have complete coverage so that might be the reason you can’t find them there.
You won’t find them on the Durham Registrars site because Gateshead is outside their area.

http://www.marriage-locator.co.uk
Marriage may possibly have been at St Edmund, Gateshead according to 'Marriage Locator' - Sep quarter 1882 Vol 10a page 1003
Freebmd shows marriage under name Hoggart rather than Hoggard.

Excellent!! Thank you so much. Mine of information as usual.

Yu may not be aware that Gateshead Registration District covers other towns in the area. From the FreeBMD entry click on Gateshead and you go to page "District Information" and you can then, by clicking "here" see the locations and timescales covered by the District. :)

Hi Trish. I have all that thanks, but as you say, no sign of Mary pre 1891. That is my problem. Who is she? That is why I need the marriage certificate to find her father. She does leave her estate to an Elizabeth Hoggart, plus her son, named as sons Aunt, but can't see the connection.
Thanks Bumblebee, good to know.

My apologies for this - BUT if you are so desperate to find Mary, then why are you apparently NOT prepared to purchase the marriage certificate from GRO?

I only asked where to find it today. Haven't had a chance yet as I am helping a friend and won't see her until next week, and it will be up to her whether she obtains the certificates or not.
Thanks again everyone for their input. It is greatly appreciated.

Peshaw is near Fatfield, which is William's residence on the marriage to Elizabeth Dawson. Says all three born Fatfield in 1851.

Goodness knows what it says in 1871.
After son George Dawson came daughter Maria

Hi
Wow, so much info!!! Thanks!!! It will take a while to sift through it. I know William did marry an Elizabeth Dawson (who seems to have "adopted" Mary's son Robert Ernest Galloway after her death) and his parents were George and Maria from Yorkshire. The Penshaw baptism 10.6.1827 for William is very interesting. I wonder what Copperas House was?
Once again, thanks for your interest.

Hi
It does look good for Penshaw.
George and Maria and family are still in Harraton in 1851, and that's where William, Elizabeth. and son George Dawson are too.
Looking for Robert and Mary Galloway's daughter, Elizabeth Charlotte.
Is there something odd here? :-\
Elizabeth Charlotte Galloway was registered in Sep qtr 1889, Gateshead.
In 1891 census, with her parents, she is age 1, born Gateshead.
No obvious death for her before the 1901 census, so she should be around, like her brother Robert Ernest.
There is in Gateshead
Charlotte Galloway, Step Daur, 11, born Durham Gateshead.
https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:XSHV-37Y
She is with James Poole, Widower, 53, Labourer Steel Works. He's born in Shropshire.
He has three children, youngest Lydia, 12, born Gateshead.
So in 1891 in Gateshead, James Poole is married to Annabella, 37

Death in Gateshead, Sep qtr 1891, of Annabell Poole, age 39.
Marriages, June qtr 1896, Gateshead 10a 1395

Poole, James
The other two names on page 1395 are Thomas E H Bell, and Mary Ann McLeod.
Common name though Bell is, it seems they can be paired off, living in Gateshead in 1901, and Newcastle in 1911, with daughters Agnes, Norah, Hilda.

But what are your conclusions! ;D
The Poole connection doesn't seem to make sense though. But James has the step daughter Charlotte Galloway with him!
Mary Galloway is listed at 56 Askew Road West on the 1898 electoral register
https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:3QHV-L3JQ-ZQ12
It's the address on her probate record, same as husband Robert. They had a shop?

I have been looking at the family and found all the same records. What is a mystery though is....if it is 'our' Mary who married James Poole, why is she buried as Mary Galloway and not Mary Poole?
What a mystery!
