Why did Scandinavian immigrants choose Minnesota?

I have just managed to read this - it wouldn't let me last night. I was interested as some relatives of my gr. grandfather settled in Minnesota in the 1850s. (Some others moved on to Dakota.) I did quite a bit of research on this family a few years ago. They were not Scandinavian though, solid Anglo-Saxon!

A good many of mine [but not the direct line] went to Minnesota, too, then on to Oregon and Washington.

It wouldn't let me read it so didn't copy link to send to Anglo Swedish society in Gothenburg
They'd be interested tho don't know if they have any American members mostly Brits .
I have DNA matches from a Scots gold miner who connects to Canadian lumberjacks with a lot of Scandinavian DNA ...I did wonder if it was one person or several generations
Top of hill what did you do differently to get it open ?

Try opening it in a private window.

When I tried to open it, it was greyed out except for a box to take up a subscription.

I just tapped the screen outside the subscription box, and was able to read it.

"What's a private window?"
I use Firefox. If I right click on that link [or on any link], I get the option of opening the link in a new tab, a new window or in a private window. I use the private window option a lot because often, though not always, it permits one to open links that require a subscription. I can get some Washington Post articles that way, also Newsweek and numerous other newspapers. It doesn't work with the NY Times, the LA Times or the Boston Globe.
